Another late update

Well, I had a long rambling post all ready to go. I proofread it to some extent, I formatted it all nice and pretty, I previewed one last time, then I closed the browser window. Now it is consigned to that place where all lost bits and bytes go. So, instead you (the lucky reader) get a link to my photo gallery on Flickr and a bulleted highlights style post instead (Click "Read More" to see it):

Sunday, April 1st: We made a day trip to Akihabara. For those who aren't familiar with the area, Akihabara is basically several square blocks devoted almost exclusively to computer and electronics stores. On Sundays they close off the main street through the area and a couple of side streets and hold sort of an impromtu flea market.

Monday, April 2nd: I made some kind of an effort to organize our luggage in such a way that we could walk on the floor in the hotel room. Doesn't seem like such a tall order until you consider that we had 2 full sized bags, a carry on and a backpack, each, in a room the size of a double bed with 2ft on three sides to walk around in.

Tuesday, April 3rd: This was the day we were allowed to move into our apartment. It was also the last day we had the hotel room reserved. So a simple move across town? Nah, that'd be too simple. While this was happening Wakey needed to be at training. And even the act of moving was a multi-step process fraught with peril: First I needed to sign some forms at Interac (Wakey's employer and also the guarantor of our apartment). Then I needed to pick up the key from the rental office. Somehow all of this happened. Maybe I'll go in to detail later if people are interested.

Over the last week: We've been doing a little shopping basically every day. We've been haunting Daiso (a rather decent dollar store), Konan (think of it as a huge Target and a Home Depot under one roof, complete with its own eating establishment: The Cafe Canadian Pao) and on occasion the Loft (kind of like Pier 1, kinda). Collecting the things that you need for a new apartment is kind of a pain in the butt to begin with, but not having a car makes things approximately one order of magnitude more annoying.

Anyways, our beds (basically futon cushions without the futon frame) were supposed to come today (Tuesday) but apparently the place we ordered them from realized at the last minute that they couldn't accept my debit card. Grrrr. We made other arrangements today (and paid in cash) and we will really, really have beds to sleep in for tomorrow night. Also, I'm going to put together a (super short) video tour of the apartment "real soon now" (tm). That's it for now. Post comments at me if you want more specifics or want to request photos or just want to, uhm... comment.
