“What do you mean broken?”

“Broken!  Busted, not working, out of order, conked out, wrecked, kaput...”

“Ok McKay! I understand broken, what are you doing about it?”

“I’m working on it, just sit tight and...”

“Rodney! Teyla’s pretty banged up.”

“Yes, I know! Look I’m going as fast as I can. Next scheduled contact in four hours. Atlantis out.”

As silence consumed the jumper John kneeled down next to Teyla’s still form. She looked so broken and small, scratches ran the length of her arm, her shoulder was dislocated and there was a gash above her left eyebrow that looked so deep that for a minute he felt the fear creep into his mind that maybe she was going to be waking up.

“Don’t be stupid, she’s the strongest woman I’ve ever known,” he told the silence.

He checked her bandages, satisfied that the bleeding from her head had slowed considerably; he carefully brushed her hair away from her face. John sighed and looked around the broken jumper. The snow outside was beginning to build up around the jumper at an alarming rate. Soon they would be buried in it and there was a good chance that they would be for a while. John steeled himself with the thought that when Teyla woke up she was going to need something to eat and drink.

With renewed resolve, John set about taking inventory of the emergency supplies in the jumper.
---

Sam was glaring at him with her “There better be a good explanation for this” face. Rodney mused for a second that he seemed to be seeing a lot more of that particular face in recent times.
“What do you mean broken?”

Rodney sighed. “Busted, not working, out of order...”

“Ok Rodney I get the point.” Sam nodded to Keller and Ronon as they rushed into her office

“Do we know what kind of injuries Teyla has sustained?” Keller asked

“What’d Sheppard crash the jumper for?” Ronon asked

Rodney snorted and rolled his eyes. Sam glared at him again.

“Technically he didn’t crash it, it was more of an emergency crash landing,” Rodney said.

“That’s still crashing,” Ronon pointed out.

“True,” Rodney conceded.

“Rodney! Injuries, Teyla,” Keller shouted at him.

“Ah right, Sheppard said she was pretty banged up, um, head wound and dislocated shoulder? He said he had bandaged her up and that she wasn’t bleeding too badly but she was still unconscious.”

Keller glared. “You didn’t think that maybe I should have maybe talked to him when you had him on the radio?”

Rodney blinked.

“Head wound Rodney, unconscious, kinda serious,” Keller explained.

“Well... no. Sheppard said the bleeding had stopped and besides, Teyla’s tough!”

Ronon nodded.

Keller sighed.

Sam massaged her temples.

“Look if you all stop talking, and glaring at me, I can start fixing this and have them home before the next scheduled contact!” Rodney said exasperatedly.

---

“... and Bill had his stupid hat on!” John chuckled, the sound echoing through the jumper.
“I suppose he was fond of it then,” came a reply he was not expecting.

“Teyla! Hey, how you feeling?” John bolted from the cockpit to Teyla’s side before the words had left his mouth.

“I am fine,” Teyla winced, trying to sit up in the process.

“Whoa, no, take it easy,” John said helping her lie back down, “You’ve got a pretty nasty cut on your forehead and your shoulder was dislocated. Why don’t we just lie back and take it easy? McKay is working on a way to get us out of here in no time.”

“How long have we been here?” Teyla asked.

“Coming up on four hours. Next scheduled contact with Atlantis is in less than half an hour.” John checked his watch.

---

Rodney stood in the doorway to Sam’s office looking nervous.
“I’m not a pessimist but something tells me you don’t have good news,” she said.

“It was an EM pulse that brought down the jumper,” Rodney replied, walking in.

Sam resisted the urge to bash her head against her desk.

“From what? Where?  Did someone shoot it at them or was it just random coincidence?”

Rodney shrugged. “At this point in time I can’t really be sure, there’s a lot of interference.”

“We can’t send in another jumper to rescue them,” Sam said

Rodney nodded. “Can’t send anyone in on foot either. MALP telemetry indicates that the area immediately surrounding the gate is covered by almost thirteen feet of snow.”

“Next scheduled contact?”

Rodney looked down at his tablet. “Now.”

“Ok, keep them informed of the situation. Try not to panic them,” Sam warned.

Rodney nodded and started to head back to the control room.

“Rodney?” Sam called after him, “Make sure they know we’re going to get them out of there.”

Rodney turned back to her and smiled grimly, “Just not right now?”

---

Teyla was brought out of her dozing by the sound of the radio springing to life.
“Sheppard, come in,” she heard Rodney say.

She glanced beside her to see John was dead to the world asleep. The temperature in the jumper had dropped down so much so that John had started referring to it as the icebox. He had made a nest of sleeping bags and they were both curled up in them, cuddled to each other for warmth.

“Sheppard, please come in,” radio Rodney called again.

John’s eyes shot open and the arm he had round her stomach tightened in reflex.

“Radio,” Teyla said.

As John rolled away to reach for the radio Teyla felt the loss of heat immediately. She was weighing up the pain of following him verses his warmth when he returned and snuggled up to her again. Tucking her head under his chin and his knees in behind hers, bringing one arm over her stomach and resting the other by her head Teyla felt safe and warm, for a minute not caring that they were crash landed on a planet that she knew was starting to look like a snow globe John had once given her.

“Sheppard! Teyla!” radio Rodney was starting to sound slightly panicked.

“We’re here McKay,” John responded.

“Oh thank god, for a moment there I thought... Never mind, look we haven’t been able to get to you yet,” the radio crackled.

“Something about still being trapped in this icebox tipped me off to that fact McKay,” John growled.

Teyla squeezed his hand gently in warning, frowning though she knew John could not see her face.

“Yes, very funny, well, basically it was an EM pulse that caused you to crash,”

“So you can’t send another jumper to get us,” John sighed.

“Exactly and the snows pretty built up so that rules out sending people through on foot,” came the crackled reply.

Teyla felt John tense up behind her.

“So what’s the plan then?” John asked.

“Yes, well, we’re still working on that...”

“We will be fine Rodney,” Teyla spoke up.

“Teyla?! You’re awake, well of course you’re awake if you’re talking. Jennifer will be pleased...”

“McKay!”

“We will be fine. We have enough food and water. We are keeping warm enough. The winter on this planet never lasts more than 48 hours. Soon the snow will stop falling and start to melt away, at which time you will be able to come through the gate and get us out,” Teyla said calmly.

There was silence from both John and the radio.

“Why didn’t you tell us this before?! Do you know how many hours I’ve spent trying to figure out how to get you guys out of there! All the worst case scenarios going through my mind, I mean, Ronon was really worried!”

“I have been unconscious for most of that time Rodney,” Teyla pointed out.

“Right well then, I guess next scheduled contact in, what eight hours? That’ll give you some time to sleep?” Rodney asked.

“Settled then. Sheppard out.”

“Oh, Teyla? You still there?” Rodney asked.

“Yes Rodney, what is it?” Teyla sighed

“How are you feeling? Do you need to talk to Keller about your injuries? I tried to tell her that you’re tough and I was sure you were ok but she insisted that I ask.”

“You may tell her that I am fine Rodney. Sore, tired and cold but fine. Thank you for your concern,” Teyla smiled.

“Ok. Good. Right. McKay out,” the radio went silent.

“Why didn’t you tell me you knew we were going to be ok?” John asked.

“You did not appear to be that concerned,” Teyla replied

“Yeah, well I wasn’t... But you still could have told me,” John sulked.

Teyla just smiled.

“Are you really ok or were you just telling McKay that so he’d shut up?” John asked

“I am. Tired, cold and sore. But fine overall,” Teyla replied.

“Anything I can do to make any of those go away?” John asked, pushing his body closer to her so that there was no amount of air between them in what she supposed was an effort to provide her with more body heat.

“Tell me a story,” Teyla yawned.

“What kind of story?” John replied, catching Teyla’s yawn.

“I shall start it for you. We are on Earth, it is a warm summer’s night and you are going to take me somewhere special,” Teyla replied.

“Ah, I get your drift. So there’s this Ferris Wheel...”
