Well, this could be interesting.
If San Diego loses today, while New York, Philadelphia and Colorado win, there will be a tie for first in the NL East and a four-way tie for the Wild Card. That'll mean a playoff for the East, with the winner taking first place and the loser going home, and a playoff Between San Diego and Colorado for the wild card. At least, that's what I think will happen. They might look at records against the other team, or worse, leave it to a coin toss by the commissioner, in which case Milwaukee will be in the postseason. (Bud Selig used to own the Brewers, and his daughter still does.)
Meanwhile, The White Sox and Astros, who played in the 2005 World Series, have identical 72-89 records. Go figure.

I love my Mac mini, though right now I'm not fond of the wireless keyboard, which is a battery operated Bluetooth device. The batteries went dead halfway through this entry, and I had to replace them. Try doing that with one hand.
Still, the advantage of Mac OS X is that the underlying operating system is Unix. This means that there are lots of commands and programming languages to deal with text files, such as the ones I have to process for a project at work. I have found a way to use a shell script that calls a sed script and a Perl script to process comma-separated text files in seconds. Doing the same thing manually in Excel took close to ten minutes. Of course, it took ten hours to write, and I still have trouble processing files that have spaces in the name, but I can change the file names manually for the time being.
