Well, here I am in Scotland. My parents moved here in July, and this is my first time coming over to visit them. It's also my first time in Europe. I arrived yesterday morning, and so far, the trip has been wonderful.
I flew to Heathrow through Halifax. (Boo on Air Canada for discontinuing the St. John's - Heathrow flight just when I need it!) I got one of the new small jets with personal in-seat TV for the St. John's - Halifax leg, which was awesome -- they had The Best of Styx in their music library!! The Halifax - Heathrow leg was boring, and the seat was pretty flat and uncomfortable, but I arrived feeling more or less rested anyway.
Dad was waiting for me at Heathrow, and took me to our hotel, which was near King's Cross station. We spent the rest of the day walking and taking the Undergrond around London (and, well, I slept a bit too). We walked around Piccadilly Circus, Pall Mall, Trafalgar Square, and the Big Ben/Parliament/Westminster area, and down by the Thames. So, some of the highlights of London. It was a really nice walk.
This morning we took the train to Dundee from King's Cross station (next to the hotel). The 6-hour ride was uneventful but nice. (I wish we still had the railway in Newfoundland...it's such a civilized way to travel.) Dundee is about the same size as St. John's, and there's an area similar to Water Street about a 5 minutes walk from my parents' apartment. It seems like a great place, and I'm looking forward to exploring it.
I'm also planning to spend some time in London and Paris while I'm here -- maybe a week in each city. Probably after New Year's. I really can't wait.
