For Those Of Us Out Of the Loop

What's been going on in comics for the last year or two? Anything interesting? I read that Batman is forming a company of Batmen or something. Is there still a limited number of mutants? etc.

The mutant population is slowly growing. Hope is hopping around the globe collecting new mutants. The X-Men are still on their ocean base. And Nightcrawler was killed for no good reason.

Cyclops disbanded X-Force after the rest of the X-Men found out. But Wolverine, Psylocke, Archangel, Fantomex and Deadpool reformed the team.

Steve Rogers now runs SHIELD and he's got his own team of Secret Avengers (which is awesome). The other Avenger teams still suck, though.

Oh, and the red Hulk is Thunderbolt Ross. In fact, pretty much every once-human character in Hulk's supporting cast has become a Hulk now. Bruce is back to being the green Hulk as well but he's got control over it. Betty is the red She-Hulk and Rick Jones is an Abomination knock-off called A-Bomb.

It's... pretty fucking stupid.

Yeah, I'd heard about T-Bolt and Betty. That's the problem with superhero stories, sometimes: they forget about having nonpowered people in the story at all and you wind up with it seeming like the entire world is populated with powers.

So there are new mutants again? That's good to hear. That story was getting old several years ago. What ocean base? The island they took from Magneto back in the day or a new one?

Is Steve Cap'n A again or is Bucky or are they both?

It's the remains of Asteroid M. During Dark Reign, with the help of Namor they rose it from the ocean to get away from Osborn and declared it a home for all remaining mutants. It's called Utopia I believe.

Bucky is the only Cap. Steve is running SHIELD but without a superhero identity, he's just Commander Rogers now. He does have a really cool Cap-inspired costume, though.

I thought he was being referred to as The Super Soldier, much in the same way that Bruce Wayne is the definitive "The Batman" instead of the indefinite "Batman."

No, Steve Rogers: Super Soldier was just the title of a mini. No one's referred to him as Super Soldier in any of the Heroic Age books.

Wasn't Super Soldier the title of the Amalgam Cap/Superman book? If so it could be iffy which company owns the right to publish a series under that title.
