Acting is a win-win situation. There is no risk involved. That's why I get tired of hearing actors who try to make out that there's a downside to it. Fame is an odd thing. It bugs you a little bit, but it's really not bad. It can get you a table at a restaurant without a reservation - but someone might disturb your dinner for an autograph or two - it’s all a trade off. Back when I was probably at my most recognizable, back in the 90’s when I was doing Northern Exposure, yeah every once in a while I didn’t want to get up in the morning. I wanted to stay warm and snuggly in bed with…well that part is private of course…but that isn’t the point. There were times I wished the world would swallow me up whole, but there wasn’t a day I wasn’t thankful for the work.
Nowadays I can usually go to Barney’s or wherever, and just have a brew, a vegetarian pizza and have a conversation with people. I like that. Having conversation. I’m like Chris Stevens in that way. I like to talk about all sorts of things. Something I don’t like - people who monopolize the conversation and basically are only capable of talking about themselves, or about other people in a non flattering light. Another thing that bothers me; - women who are always playing the victim. There is nothing worse than hearing the “oh poor me, my life is so…whatever.” So change it!!! It is within your power to change some things in life. The things you can’t change you will change by changing the things you can. If you aren’t going to minimally do that, then by all means, whine about your life - just don’t do it to me. I may have played a minister on NX, but that is as far as that goes. I have no problem being there for friends who need a sounding board, but I don’t exist for entertainment purposes. Especially when it’s not very entertaining.
