So my fifteen characters were:
- Macbeth (as played by Patrick Stewart)
- Edmund Blackadder, butler to the Prince Regent (Blackadder III)
- Rose Tyler (Doctor Who)
- Yosemite Sam (Looney Tunes)
- Sidriss the Confused (Knightmare)
- Frobisher (Doctor Who)
- Theremin (Ectoplasm)
- Mimi Labonq ('Allo 'Allo!)
- Sapphire (Sapphire & Steel)
- Victoria Waterfield (Doctor Who)
- Danestar Gems (The Searcher by James H. Schmitz)
- James Rassilon (Doctor Who)
- Sir Clixby Bream, the Master of Lonsdale College (Inspector Morse)
- Donna Noble (Doctor Who)
- Flambeau (Father Brown books)
(Aside: I included Sir Clixby this time because he was played, very much
against type, by the late Richard Briers.)
lost_spook asked:
15 [Flambeau] and 13 [Sir Clixby] steal a spaceship and head off in search
of adventure. What happens and why is 6 [Frobisher] on their trail?
I'm assuming this is before Flambeau met Father Brown, in which case
he'd be stealing the spaceship for the fun of it. Whereas I can't see Sir
Clixby leaving Oxford without some fairly dire necessity, so perhaps he's
made the place too hot to hold him.
I don't think they get on; Sir Clixby is an unpleasant, vindictive old
troublemaker, and a perfect example of what Father Brown says to Flambeau
about crime getting progressively meaner. I expect they'd part company
before very long, with Flambeau keeping the ship.
Obviously Frobisher's on their trail because he's been hired by the
spaceship's owner to recover his stolen property.
2 [Blackadder] and 4 [Yosemite Sam] have a duel to the death - who wins?
So, Blackadder has to fight a duel with a maniac who shouts all the
time and believes that violence is always the answer... hasn't this already
happened?
It's an interesting question. On the one hand Sam can't actually die;
the worst that can happen to him is a blackened face and ragged clothes. On
the other hand, by the rules of his universe he is incapable of defeating
his opponent, particularly if that opponent is an unscrupulous trickster.
I think the duel is fought between Sam and a turnip-headed straw dummy
manufactured by Baldrick. By the time Sam realises he's been tricked, Mr
Blackadder is nowhere to be seen.
11 [Danestar Gems], 8 [Mimi Labonq], 5 [Sidriss the Confused] and
6 [Frobisher] go off in a caravan together. Fun times or holiday from
hell...?
Given that Danestar and Frobisher are private detectives and Mimi's a
resistance fighter, I have to wonder whether there mightn't be more to this
holiday than meets the eye.
I expect they'll rapidly come to an understanding, and as long as they
manage to keep Sidriss away from any situation where she feels the need
to use magic, the holiday might even be an enjoyable one.
pedanther asked:
Which character on the list would you most want on your side
in a zombie invasion?
Interesting question. The most powerful candidate under normal
conditions would be James Rassilon; he can disintegrate zombies with his
magic glove, and probably stands the best chance of finding out what's
causing the zombie invasion in the first place. On the minus side, he
might decide to fix the problem by blowing the entire planet up.
A similar problem arises with Sapphire, since she might well find it
necessary to sacrifice me in order to shut down zombie production.
Of those who are left: Macbeth, Blackadder, Yosemite Sam and Theremin would all
have ready access to weapons, but I'm less sure they'd reliably use them on
the enemy rather than me. Flambeau and Mimi both have unarmed combat skills,
but these might not be too applicable to zombies. Danestar is a Schmitz
heroine, but her skills lie more in communications interception and resisting
interrogation than sharpshooting. I think it's got to be Frobisher.
If Rose happens to contain the Time Vortex at the time, the decision is
much easier. She can cure the zombies, or reduce them to dust, as she thinks
fit, without the risk of taking out the whole planet.
Under what circumstances might 1 [Macbeth] and 9 [Sapphire] fall in love?
Macbeth is an 11th century king who's somehow managing to be
the ruler of a military dictatorship in the 1930s. If that isn't enough
to get Sapphire's attention, I don't know what will. And if she shows up
after Lady Macbeth's suicide, who knows if she might not conquer the
lonely king's heart?
Of course, since Sapphire is neither a man, nor of woman born, it
isn't going to end at all well for Macbeth.
10 [Victoria], 12 [James Rassilon], and 14 [Donna] are chosen by a
prophecy to save the world from 3 [Rose]. Do they succeed?
Under normal circumstances, without even raising a sweat. Donna
finds Rose using her secretarial skills, Victoria goes in to try and
talk her down, and if that fails James blows her to pieces with the
Glove of Rassilon.
If Rose happens to contain the Time Vortex at the time, it all depends
whether James decides to shoot first, or ask questions first. If he marches
in and starts firing his glove at things, he gets reduced to dust. If he
does a proper assessment of the situation and works out the correct course
of action, viz. to kiss the Time Vortex out of Rose and then
disintegrate her, I think the world will survive. Sadly, he'll end up
looking like Pierce Brosnan, but these sacrifices are occasionally
necessary.
I also think there's going to be a scene where...
"First," the Lord High President of Gallifrey proclaimed, "I shall
blast the doors down. Then I-"
"Hang on," Donna said. "You want to get close to her without being seen.
You need to sneak in the back way, not make a song and dance round the
front."
The President gave her a baleful glare. "I. Was. Talking."
With a wave of his glove, he reduced her to atoms.
"Then," he continued, "I shall proceed to the top floor..." He broke off,
momentarily lost in thought. "On second thoughts, Donna's right. The rear
entrance is the better one for this purpose."
Why is 6 [Frobisher] afraid of 7 [Theremin]?
Because Theremin's an unstable, murderous butler armed with a blunderbuss.
Or, if it's after the end of his series, an unstable, murderous dictator with
considerably more than a blunderbuss at his disposal.
