List your top fanfic on AO3 for every year, sorted by kudos.
2007 (backdated reposts)
Seasonal Decoration (Doctor Who, drabble)
I think this was one of, if not the first fic I posted to
dw100. Nice to know it
still appeals to someone (well, three someones).
2008 (backdated reposts)
... In Boots (Doctor Who / Neverwhere, drabble)
Perhaps the Neverwhere fandom put this ahead of the
three other drabbles dated 2008? They were all crossovers,
in their own way, but Nebulous and Hyperdrive
presumably didn't have the same level of support.
2009 (backdated reposts)
Afternoon Off (Doctor Who, 536 words)
I think this is because it's the only Jamie/Peri fic on AO3.
2010
22 Pairs (Doctor Who, drabble collection, 2400 words)
Ah yes, I remember this one - and the forum game of
Pairing vs Pairing from which it originated. I was on
holiday in North Yorkshire when I was writing it, which
seems to have helped my creativity. A testament to what
random generators can do to for you.
2011
Murder at the Mill (Doctor Who / Sherlock Holmes, 1014 words)
Maybe it's the Sherlock Holmes crossover that did it?
2012
Noblesse Oblige (Pride and Prejudice, 147 words)
Writing a canonical Austen pairing seems to do wonders
for a fic's popularity, as I believe I've mentioned
before.
2013
Vox et Praeterea Mysteria (Doctor Who, 3730 words)
The first fic I'd consider a runaway success -
whether it was something to do with Unconventional Courtship,
or the Ace / Oswin pairing catching readers' imagination, I
don't know, but I definitely saw the effect.
2014
Persistence (Persuasion, 8209 words)
The other runaway success - Unconventional Courtship
and a canonical Austen pairing.
2015
The Problem of Darley Place (Sherlock Holmes / Miss Marple, 2843 words)
I think the combination of fandoms is what puts this one
where it is.
2016
Disassembly (Doctor Who / Girl Genius, 1051 words)
Crossing over with Girl Genius appears to
attract quite a bit of attention.
2017
Love in the Air (Doctor Who, 528 words)
Looks like Nyssa / Tegan shippers were the demographic I
reached that year.
2018
A Quiet Night In (Doctor Who [This Time Round], 2413 words)
There you are. TTR still had enough fans as of 2018
to propel my 20th anniversary fic to the top of the board.
2019 (so far)
I Need A Hero (Doctor Who / Red Dwarf, 600 words)
And it's Ace Rimmer to the rescue this year. But when the
only opposition was a Lucie / Karen fic (a 'mindlessly obscure'
ship, as
aralias put it), I don't think he had
much of a fight on his hands.
