John wouldn't consider his current situation a mess really. He couldn't regret putting his faith in Magneto or joining the Brotherhood. Truth be told, if things hadn't went to shit during the big fight with the X-Men, he'd still be working along side Magneto. He'd still be Brotherhood. After all, he'd rose through the ranks quick enough. He'd

"An' I have some money so ya ain't gonna be payin' for it all." She couldn't stomach not contributing at least a little to the trip. She needed to know she could pull her own weight. Even if she really didn't want to think about what jobs he'd done to earn his share Rogue couldn't begrudge him for doing what he needed in order to survive. At least the purchase of the car was somewhat legit.
One of the nice things about John was he didn't feel the need to fill up the silence with pointless conversations. In that regard he reminded Rogue of Logan. Whereas Bobby liked to talk her ear off it had always been easy to sit and enjoy the quiet with John. But as nice as the companionable silence was between them Rogue wanted a little bit of noise. "If'n I turn on the radio an' its playin' pop I'm gonna laugh at ya."

Though the good thing about where they were headed was that it wasn't too hard to live off the land there to a degree. John had learned a lot about surviving while living with Magneto. That was something he was grateful too. Not that he didn't have his own survival skills from back when he was living on the streets. It's just that Magneto taught him more skills. Useful ones for disappearing out of the city.
He smirked at her because he remembered Cyclops car and that horrible music that came out when he turned the radio on. It had been to avoid the awkward conversation between Rogue and Logan. He couldn't help but wonder where Logan ran off too. Not that he wanted him to come along with them. Nah, they were good on their own. But maybe he wouldn't have told Logan he couldn't have come along if he wanted.
"There won't be. Unless you're a fan of it and we have to take turns or something. Passenger chooses the music or whatever." It was as much of a concession as he could give. After all, with their personalities, it was harder to be the passenger in the car than the driver. At least having control of the music then would be something to chill them out. "Are you on any time table for when you have to be back?"

Rogue wasn't sure what her time table would be. In a few hours Ms. Monroe and the other staff would realize she's gone. Hopefully the note saying she'd be back would curtail any search they might think of instituting. Thankfully she was pretty sure they didn't have a means of contacting Logan. He always contacted them and since he'd called yesterday that gave her at least a week before he called again, maybe more, and out of everyone he should understand her need to roam.
"No time table for me. You?"

"No, no time table." Which was just the way he liked it. He'd worked with Magneto's schedule, and even with the schools back in the day. Now he was in charge of his own destiny. Even if it was something as simple as being able to take a drive when he wanted, and not have to worry about answering to anyone he was grateful for it.
They drove in silence for a little while. The good thing about Marie was that she understood what it meant to be left to your thoughts at times. Maybe that was why he actually missed her, and on occasion Logan. They understood how the others worked. "I'm glad you came out with me. It would be a boring trip otherwise."

"So why'd ya need company? Are the rumors about the dissolution of the Brotherhood true?" John had to have known she'd ask about it. She understood the appeal of Magneto's philosophy, the power it gave to those desperately seeking control of their lives. Rogue also knew the other side of his vision and how easily he would turn on his people if he thought it would benefit his Cause. She hoped John hadn't learned that lesson the hard way.
