The Motor Registry at Regency Park (South Australia) looked like any motor registry in New South Wales but the people were very different. They were not jaded plutocrats fed up with their jobs, they were there to help people get their car registered.
Parking was adequate. Tip for the New South Wales authorities: if you conduct a business involved with cars, people might bring their cars with them to see you. Parramatta Motor Registry was built about seven years ago, without a car park. Well, there is a car park but that is for employees' vehicles.
I was there at eight, someone else was running late so they did my vehicle first. I parked the Ferrari over a pit and the engineers prodded and poked the suspension, checked every light and switch and then we spent nearly an hour looking for the engine number.
(It is on the top right of the block, under the injection system)
There was some other paperwork to be done and some meetings in Port Adelaide and at the Technology Park on the way out of town. By Friday afternoon I was on my way to the Barrossa Valley wondering how far I would get before nightfall.
Because of the heat (it had got up to thirty that day and the airconditioning had failed again) I decided to travel as far as I could at night but wanted to stop at a motel well before midnight; many motels are run by couples and put up the 'no vacancy' sign before ten thirty and go to bed.
I decided to stop at Mildura on the NSW Victoria border after seeing a Police car on the way into town. I didn't want to find out if a police car was waiting for me on the way out of town.
