Oh shit, I forgot to summarize this yesterday.
So yeah, I have very big news.
Me and Scot were walking out of Crossroads yesterday when we decided to cut across a small bit of lawn with large evergreens. I suddenly froze at a noise.
"Scot, what's that noise?"
"Eh?" Scot looks up at the trees "Oh, that's the birds. See there?"
I stand there in silent wonderment. "The birds...I've never been able to hear them before!"
So, on March 27th, 2006 at 1:25pm, I heard birds for the first time in nearly 21 years of my life.
I was crying, because I was so happy. I finally had no regrets or fears about getting my cochlear implant. Every time I had gotten a new set of hearing aids, my mom would always ask me "Can you hear the birds?" and I always responded by tilting my head and saying "I THINK so?"
But...today, I heard them for the first time, loud and clear.
Mom was very, very happy. She was crying when I told her the second time that day (I had managed to contact my father first after failing to get ahold of her. He then told my mom.) and we had a short talk on the phone with Jacob interpreting a bit there and there.
I'm getting a phone sometime. Mom told me to wait on it, and fine, I will. But I'm definitely getting a new phone.
I cannot believe I heard the birds. now that I've finally heard them, a large chapter of my life is closed.
and I couldn't be happier.
