My excitement for this coming year is two.fold:
[1] I am working as an In.Home Transitional Support Services Provider for Tubman Family Alliance. I will work with women and children in their homes who have recently moved in to the community and find themselves completely isolated from all resources. On top of this disconnection, they are living in abuse relationships with their significant others. So, I'll be going in to environments were domestic violence is just the norm and work to get my clients set up with whatever services they might need, ranging from obtaining a new washer and dryer to seeking out couple's counseling and family therapy.
I will also get a chance to get in on the legal aspect of social work, going to court with clients as an advocate and working on social policy issues. Awesome? Shyea!
[2] I'm going to study in Amsterdam for the month of January! I will be doing an independent study of mine and my professor's own design. I'm hoping to study either minorities in Amsterdam or the social set.up of the Red.Light district. Ow! I get to travel around Europe (finances permitting) before and/or after, should I so choose. Any suggestions? I would love to his Denmark or Brussels.
