creepy man at the door

I was minding my own business blissfully listening to some classical music, and suddenly a loud knock on the door! I went and looked through the peephole and saw a man standing there. I said aloud, "Who is this?" He ignored me. I put my mouth very near the doorjamb and said very loud, "Who are you? What do you want?" He just stood there silently. I asked again and all he did was interrupt me by rattling the door handle and banging on the door again. I started to say "If you don't say who you are and what this is about, the door isn't opening," but I was interrupted by him slamming something hard against the door.

Through the peephole I saw him going down the stairs. But when I looked again, a minute later, he was standing on the stairs. I looked again a minute later, and he was just sitting there on the stairs. This was way too creepy for me. Wouldn't you think?

After a few more minutes he went away. I carefully opened the door and found a package that Vicki had ordered from Amazon. The devilry delivery company is called LaserShip. I want to put both Amazon and LaserShip on notice that unless their courier clearly identifies himself and his business to my satisfaction, I will not open the door. Am I right?

Today I'm in the middle of reading The Gift of Fear by Gavin de Becker. Lots of women, discussing their needs for physical security from sexual assault and violence by men, have strongly recommended this book. It's about how to predict violence. Well, for me, the guy's creepy refusal to speak a word was all the alarming I needed. That's all I know.

security, paranoid, violence against women, books
