THE ACCOLADE - PINOCCHIO (song by girl band from saudi arabia)

Nov 28, 2008 23:28

They're not allowed to perform in their own country because women are denied equality there. They can't put their pictures on the record cover. They have to jam in secret.

The Arabic comments at YouTube are mostly from guys who express impotent outrage that Arab women are actually rocking out. This is the beauty of rock-'n'-roll: it holds up a finger in the face of oppression. Saudi Arabia will never be the same again. Really. But one of the Arabs commented "رائع جدا - على الاقل افضل من كلاش" (Very cool - At a minimum, better than The Clash). Another one repeated "Very cool" and added, "صوت الروك يشتت الظلامية الصحراوية " (The sound of rock-'n'-roll disperses the desert tyranny).

Rock on, ladies!
