Andy Griggs Heaven
If Heaven was an hour, it would be twilight,
When the fireflies start their dancin' on the lawn;
An' supper's on the stove and Mamma's laughin',
And everybodys workin' day is done.
If Heaven was a town, it would be my town,
Oh, on a summer day in 1985.
An' everything I wanted was out there waitin',
And everyone I loved was still alive.
Don't cry a tear for me, now, baby;
There comes a time we all must say goodbye.
And if that's what Heaven's made of,
You know, I, I ain't afraid to die.
If Heaven was a pie, it'd be cherry,
So cool and sweet an' heavy on the tongue.
An' just one bite would satisfy your hunger,
An' there'd always be enough for everyone.
If Heaven was a train, it sure would be a fast one,
That could take this weary traveller around the bend.
If Heaven was a tear, it'd be my last one,
An' you'd be in my arms again.
I havent been afraid of dying for some time....but Im more afraid of disappointing my family and friends. I believe in heaven more than life here on earth only in the sense that without a doubt I know there is a light at the end of this shitty but beautiful mess or a world. Reflecting on this song,a place of God, a place of love would come out a little different in my vision.
If heaven was a place, it'd be Clear Lake right behind Notre Dame. The golden dome would reflect upon clear lake with my brother spraying tons of water while skiing at dusk, my sister in her shining beauty, my dad drinking a corona, my mom laughing and dancing....
If heaven was a dessert, it would be home-made chocolate chip cookies
If heaven was a dance, it would be funky and free with some country twang
If heaven was a concert, it would be Bob Marley with U2, Mariah Carey, and the Beatles
If heaven was a painting, it would be anything by El Greco and Michaelangelo
If heaven was a feeling, it would be everyone I have ever loved, loving me back
Until then, I can settle for heaven on earth, knowing that love is here, too.
