Rec: Supernatural x Criminal Minds CrossoversI'm a huge fan of Supernatural/Criminal Minds crossovers. In fact, I love to see my Winchester boys get mixed up with cops of all sorts, but when they face down the best of the best (aka, the BAU)? Yeah, that's when I become a very happy camper. I, myself, have dabbled in this crossover. I wrote a one-shot called "
The Oracle of Quantico" (or on ff.net,
here) about Cas and Penelope Garcia, and I have a long WIP called
"I See a Darkness" (or on ff.net,
here), which is a case fic. For the most part, I only enjoy gen (no fan relationships) in my crossovers, so that's likely what you'll find in this post. These are all complete stories--I'll add others as they're completed.
I'll be updating this post as I remember some of my favorite stories I've come across over the years. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did, and if you have any you think I should add feel free to leave a comment.
SUPERNATURAL/CRIMINAL MINDS CROSSOVER RECOMMENDATIONS:
First, I have to start with the writer who got me hooked on this xover verse to begin with,
kikkimax. Her crossover universe begins with DEFECT, continues in HELL, AND BACK, and--what's this, I see?--she's even put up another sequel called THE HUNT. Her universe is AU from season 3, gen, and thoroughly enjoyable.
DEFECT
Rating: T
Summary: Goes AU before SPN season 3. Dean's year is almost up and he finds himself a guest of the BAU. I'm adding a warning for language, Dean has developed a potty mouth.
Wordcount: ~40k

website or at
ff.netMy Comments: This story has all that I love in CM/SPN xovers. Dean Winchester is questioned and profiled by the BAU after being "captured." He gets to bond with Penelope, Reid, and Gideon. We get to see the entire team, while Sam works on a way of saving Dean from Hell. Bonus? Ellen shows up for a short bit, too.
HELL, AND BACK
Rating: T
Summary: Sequel to Defect and takes place approximately 6 months later. As Defect was written before season three, consider this an alternate universe.
Wordcount: ~43k
Links: At Kikkimax's
website or at
ff.netMy Comments: Dean is suffering, Sam needs help with him, and the best way he can think of getting it is to find the FBI agent who got into his head. This sequel has some great moments in it with all the characters, but Morgan gets to interact more with Dean in this story than he did in the first; poor Morgan gets a showered with a dose of the supernatural.
THE HUNT
Rating: PG
Summary: Sequel to Defect and To Hell and Back. Sam and Dean finally take Gideon on that hunt. Morgan tags along for the ride.
Links: At Kikkimax's
websiteMy Comments: Such a great story--the author picks up where she left off, with the promise of taking Gideon on a hunt some time. The case itself is tragic (read: awesome legend), but the story is more about the characters dealing with the aftermath of Dean's trip downstairs. We get some hurt!boys from the get-go, and most the interaction is between Dean and Gideon, though Sam and Morgan also play major roles.

SOUR CHERRY PIE LIFE
Author: FaithDaria
Rating: T
Summary: Dean has retired to the civilian life. Too bad no one told the serial killer currently stalking teenagers in Indiana.
Wordcount: ~20k

LJ, or at
ff.netMy Comments: This was extremely cool because it's an alternate take on pre-season 6 SPN, when Dean is living with Lisa and Ben. Which, as you might realize, means it's not really gen but Dean/Lisa, even though the coupling isn't the purpose of the tale, but just part of the story setting. It's really interesting to see how the team views this protective, father-figure Dean in this story. (Thanks to
mandraco for finding me the LJ link!)

My Comments: The dangers of believing vampires are cuddly. Fun. I love that we get to see Castiel interact with the team for just a while.

THIS BITTER EARTH

ff.net My Comments: A good old fashion case-fic. The team picks up Dean Winchester, but is he the more dangerous brother? I really enjoyed the interactions between Dean and Morgan in this story.

REDUX

baylorsrRating: PG
Summary: A Criminal Minds AU gen crossover. Takes place after 1.22, Devil’s Trap, immediately following the car accident. Agent Hotchner has been wanting to meet the Winchester family for a long time.

hereMy Comments: Very short, but very cool. I can't really say why I love it without giving away the zinger. Has spoilers for later seasons (like up to 5ish) but it is set early in season 1.

***Okay, here's another terrific series called THE TIME HAS COME by
jujuberry136. Fun monsters, great interaction between characters--including Emily Prentiss, who it seems as if you don't get to see as much in most the other recs I've left. So far, there are three stories in this series:
THE TIME HAS COME TO BE GONE
Rating: PG-13
Summary: When Aaron Hotchner stepped into the interrogation room to interview one of the FBI’s most wanted unexpectedly apprehended earlier in the afternoon, he never thought the evening would end with bloodshed and rock references.
Wordcount: ~29k
Links: At
LJMy Comments: Native American creature-features, demons, angels, and the BAU getting in on the gory action? Sounds like a party. Definitely check out this series.
WHEN YOU ARE DONE
Rating: PG-13
Summary: A small Wisconsin town, a serial killer, and the Winchester brothers. There's no way this can end happily. Sequel to
The Time Has Come to be Gone.
Wordcount: ~27k
Links: At
LJMy Comments: Yay for some non-shippy interaction between Emily and Dean. Well, forced interaction. Monsters don't have to be monsters to be monsters, ya know. Great story.
I'LL LAY YOUR SOUL TO WASTE
Rating: PG-13
Summary: People are dying in New Hampshire, but Emily Prentiss thinks it’s a regular case until she spots Sam Winchester skulking near one of her interviews. When she calls his stupid-ass brother to yell at him for not giving her a heads up that they’re in town, Dean tells her Sam’s been dead for months. Dean’s out of the suburbs and on the road immediately because while he may have worked with the BAU before, there’s no way they’ll be able to deal with this - he’s not sure he is either. Sequel to
The Time Has Come to be Gone and
When You Are Done.
Wordcount: ~20k

LJMy Comments: This is not the Sam the BAU has met before, and I had *soooo* been waiting for the BAU team to run into this early season 6 Sam in a story.

A FATE WORSE THAN
Author:
vaingirlficRating: urr...R?
Summary: When Sam is kidnapped while John is on a hunt, Dean is desperate. If he can't save his brother, is there anything he can do? Pre-series.
Links: At
LJMy Comments: A short tale, very different from the others I've rec'd when it comes to content and warnings. It's pre-series Teenchester, which I adore, and only very loosely a Criminal Minds crossover, in that only one character is there, and is mostly referred to as "the fed" throughout. Still, a good read. WARNING, though, for off-screen non-con involving minors. Which is disturbing and heart breaking, as you might imagine.

*NEW* FANNING THE FLAMES
Author:
mandracoRating: PG-13
Summary: Someone or something is going after fans of the Supernatural books. The BAU think it's a religious nut. Dean and Sam think it might be a restless spirit. Only one team is right.
Links: At
LJ, on
AO3.
My Comments: What I LOVED about this story was that it used the Supernatural book fans, some characters we the viewers had actually seen on screen. That was such a fun/different aspect, that I couldn't help but adore it. I also liked that it was set in season 7, which is rare. At about 20k, it's just the right size for an evening read, so do yourself a favor and check it out.
