Job

I have a new job, have had it since this past Tuesday. I am a janitor. I clean the Main Street Station (Amtrak station) in Richmond.

Hard to believe, but I actually like it. There's still some things I need to get used to, but overall, it's good. The great thing about this job is that you get four hours to do everything thoroughly. It's not about doing it fast, like most of my previous jobs, but about doing it well. This is more to my liking than say rushing around to get an airplane ready for passengers when you have no control over how late the plane you need to prepare comes in. And the hours are not as extreme as my flight attendant job (when I'd sometimes have to be there at 4:30 AM, and a few days later might be out til midnight).

Plus, this job is humbling. I get a chance to see how custodial work feels, so I can look at custodians in a clearer light. I can appreciate them better. Now if only I can get enough work to pay off my debts. I'll talk to my boss about that (the company he owns does a variety of janitorial jobs, some paying much better per hour) when I'm comfortable with what I have now.

I predict that LJ usage will drop for the next couple of weeks for most of my friends. To all of you with exams, best of luck on them.
