Re-reading the blurb, I think you are correct. It only tingles if they are guilty but the whole tell the truth/memory wipe thing works on anyone.

I can now rest content that the plot makes sense, for an extremely tenuous value of "sense" admittedly.

There is certainly no need to send me the book.
