LJ's changes

Dec 22, 2011 22:53

I know I've been a bit quiet anyway, but just so you know the recent changes to LJ make it so that I can't read comments for more than a couple of minutes without getting a headache. So until they do something to fix the subject lines and thread expanding (so that I can skim comment pages more easily) or fix whatever they've done to make me ( Read more... )

Are you seeing the new comment style? You can get rid of it for most journals and comms by turning the 'disable custom comments' setting to 'no'. And I think if you tick the 'view in own style' ticky box at the top of your journal, that should stop this new comment style from appearing at all for now..

There's been a massive outcry, but I don't see much sign of them sorting things out properly, especially re the missing subject lines.

I ahve the disable custom comments for your journal set to no and I've always viewed LJ in my own style (because some of the comms I'm on were clearly designed by colourblind monkeys lol) but as soon as I read comments on any entry not in my own journal I get the new comment style. And I can just about manage a page (provided it's not full of long threads I have to keep opening up) but then my head starts hurting and I have to leave.

ETA Just occurred to me why view in my style is no longer helpful - I don't have a paid account any more so it is disabled.

Are you seeing the new style on Denial as well, because that is still set to the old comment style (apart from a brief glitch last night).

No Denial seems to be fine for me at the moment, so I should be around a bit on there still but ugh I hate LJ right now.

is your own journal affected? if so, maybe change to an s2 style.

I hate LJ too, but my friends are here.

My own journal is fine - and I have a nice black layout which frankly is a relief if I've been on one of the new style pages for any reason!

If view in my style was available for free users it wouldn't be so bad, although I'd still be majorly pissed off by their attitude to their users - the idiot designer has been mocking people who object. The way some LJ staff seem to react by mocking their users every time something like this happens really bugs me and while they are all individuals and may not be acting entirely officially when they do so it says something about the corporate culture that they feel it's perfectly OK to mock their customers.

That would certainly explain it. The old plain comment style was one of the main reasons for a lot of people sticking to S1 styles in the past, I think, and now that's well and truly buggered for them. I don't really have a visual problem with the new comment style, but from what I hear, some people do (it's a relatively small number, but still...) but its functioning is definitely impaired in a number of ways, and it's massively unpopular all over LJ as far as I can tell, even the Russian users don't like it.

If this twerp Igrick wanted to get rid of the subject line (because, let's face it, it is clunky when you don't actually have a subject in the line) he could surely have found a way to hide it when the line was left blank while keeping it active for anyone wanting to use it!

They could have just made most of this optional!

I mean the Russians who saw it all in beta seem to have generally had the same problems as everyone else, but their feedback was ignored - which seems to negate the point of having a beta test.

Exactly. Which does not bode well...

They're obviously going to fuck LJ up completely if they carry on like this, the twonks, which makes me a sad panda, as I like it here when they aren't buggering things up.

How are you anyway? Still no movement on the writer's block front? We're missing your lovely Nick/Stephen, you know!

Sadly still battling with it although I have got some ideas for the self-imposed Leek porn. Writing the book reviews is helping exercise the writing muscles I think. And I have a couple more of those to do now because I also have a major case of insomnia!
