the past few days have been wonderful...my gram says that "everything happens for a reason" and i'm starting to realize that she is right. i took the job at the museum, which, for the past two weeks, has been excellent. i've been working my ass off, and my boss knows it. my second day on the job i had already designed a scholarship application that she had asked me to look at, and she told me that she was "extremely impressed with my creativity, responsibility and work ethic." and that was on day two. things are looking up. i'm still doing the old navy gig for a while- i need a second source of income to suppliment the weak pay i'm getting at the museum. there currently is a PA opening, so i'm going to have a meeting with the department next week to see if i could possibly work something out with them; who knew that i'd end up working at a museum? i wouldnt have even thought of that two months ago, and now, here i am. things are looking up.
however, i do have a few things to rant about, and if you don't want to read about them, skip ahead. ok; you've been warned.
1. the mbta green line. why must you always have trains that only go as far as north station!? for every three trains that come into north station from haymarket, two of them stop at north station. i need to get to science park. AFTER north station. and what about those poor people that need to get to leachmere? however, props for the new trains that are being put into service.
2. people in general/tourists on escalators, stairs and sidewalks. today, i was going into north station from the green line. there are escalators from the subway platform to the street level, where the commuter rail is. common courtesy dictates that you stand to one side of the stairs so that people can pass you on the left, not unlike driving. YOU CANNOT STAND TWO ACROSS ON AN ESCALATOR! OR MOVING SIDEWALK FOR THAT MATTER. not everyone is having a leasurely stroll such as your self. as much as i would love to, sometimes i have palces to be, and you are preventing me from getting there quickly. the same holds true for staris, especially in the museum. i work downstairs, and come in through the main entrance and head down the main staircase, which, unfortunetley is sprial. people stop and stand and look out the floor to ceiling windows. yes, i agree that the view of the charles river that the museum offers is breathtaking, but can't you take it in after you've walked down the stairs? and along those lines, when you're walking on the sidewalk, you cannot walk eight people wide, escpecially when there are people behind you (such as myself) that need to get to work before noon....which leads me to my next point...
3. kids. i have days when i can't wait to be a father and have kids (i need a love interest first, but that is neither here nor there) and others (like the past couple days) where i can't stand them. wait, let me rephrase that. whiny, screaming, bratty kids. most of the ones that have been populating the museum this past week (due to school vacation) and the ones that have paid visits to old navy. the ones at old navy are a little worse, because they end up pulling everyhing off the racks, thus making someone have to clean it up. and their parents stand there watching, usually looking more amused than mortified, and just shurg their shoulders at you and say "sorry!". case and point- tuesday i had just finished a display, gone through and re-sized and organized EVERYTHING, when two kids were playing soccer in the store, and kicked the ball up against the wall, and the shirts came down with the ball. i was BEYOND upset. and their mom just laughed and told them to put the ball away. now i realize that sometimes you have to take your kids with you when you go shopping, but can't you get them to act civilized for a few hours? it is possible; a woman came into the store tonight with her son, and he sat in the carrige, smiled and said hi to everyone. kid, you're more than welcome to come back. and if your friends are as well behaved as you, bring them along too.
4. "those" parents. i hope and pray to god i'm not one of them. i don't think mine were, so there is some hope. you know the kind that i mean, and you know how to spot them. they're armed with guidebooks and maps to whichever locale they're in, the stroller that could rival an suv, the enormous backpack that looks like you could take it on an expedition to the arctic and constantly yelling commands to their small army. they were out in full force this week, and i'm more than ready for them to go back into hiding.
and lastly.
5. dunkin donuts. dunkin donuts you say? but you love dunks! true, i do, and i look forward to that savory cup of dishwater everyday, but i feel like some dunks are placed to get you in and out quickly, i.e. the one in north station. if there are more than 4 people in line, PLEASE DO NOT ORDER A SANDWICH (the same is to be said for the drive thru) get a coffee, donut/muffin/bagel/whatever and be on your way. again, most people are stopping quickly here on their way to work, and they dont like to be held up by joe douchebag who's ordering two sandwiches and lattes.
ok, thats it for ranting. its 12:35 and im eating cold chinese food and i'm exhasuted. saw notes on a scandal and little children this week. i think that the ending of little children was changed from the book, so any of you out there who have read the book, drop me a line. both were good, but notes on a scandal was outstanding. judi dench made glenn close in fatal attraction look charming. her performance was magnificent, and had hellen mirren not been nominated for the queen, she would have taken home her second oscar. speaking of oscars, i'll have my oscar predix tomorrow, but for now, as i said before, i'm exhausted.
hanging out with the bros this week, and im PUMPED.
...things are looking up...
later
p.s...about this whole "manny being manny" thing and him showing up late to training...whatever; as long as he can produce, then no worries. the management shouldn't be upset over this (nor should the news media), they created it. the only people who should really be upset are his teammates...
(and i'm calling it right now- miguel is going to say something about the above comment)
