Fishing Trip

Ragni reminded me earleir today about that fishing trip mentioned a while back. After a brief discussion we came to several options

1) fish one or more creeks in our local area (field and stream, aston ball fields, kings mill, and/or brandywine river)- We can catch trout in all these places, but most require waders or old shorts and shoes to fish successfully. Also $31 is needed for a license since they regularly check (at least $200 fine). You can eat the trout. Can also be crowded.

2) Furey Road- Bass and catfish. It's close by, and we can get by without a license if need be. Can't eat the fish.

3) DE River in Hook- If they open up the long dock in the next few weeks, we could catch some really nice catfish and maybe some decent size stripers. License is also needed here (they busted people there last year), and word is that is going to be a pay pier. Can't eat the fish.

4) DE River- The river runs all the way up to NY. When you go about an hour north, the water gets clear, and the fishing is much better than around here. Smallmouth bass, catfish, and alot of other freshwater fish can be caught. License is needed. You CAN keep the fish, but I wouldn't suggest it.

5) Find a local lake- The clsoest one is probably half an hour away, and I have no idea where to fish them, and most likely you would need a boat to get to the good spots. License needed. Can keep the fish. Crappie, bass, catfish, panfish.

6) Go down the beach on a head boat for bay fishing- Upside is, with the gas needed and the price of getting on the boat, were at the same price as a fishig license $20-$25 + gas(lunch not included). I'd be willing to drive one of the cars (no smoking). Usually a 4 hour trip, and late may is usually known as some of the best flounder fishing. We would need 1-2 cars depending on the # of people going. Can keep the fish. We could also consider going out on a ocean head boat for sea bass. I found one of those for $29. Fishing for them could be slow so early into the season. might be able to snag some mackeral or other fish on these boats.

As of now, these are our options. Im open to put any other ideas you have. Just leave a comment if interested and let others know about it and refer them here.

I myself would like to have a trip down to OC MD for the day. I found a bay headboat for $25, and they always include bait and tackle (i'll bring my own). How is everyone on a rod big enough to handle a flounder? I think i have 2-3. I could probably lend out one if needed. If not I'm pretty sure i saw a coupon for a rod rental for $1.00 or for free. Most head boats run 2 trips everyday, 8AM-12 PM and 1-5 PM. I found another one that is $20 but they run from 8AM-11AM, 12PM-3PM, and 4-7 PM. If you want to do the morning run, the best days to go would be May 22-24. Afternoon trips probably May 27-29. The middle dates catch the tide just right, but most of the time the ride runs later so one of the later days would be best. If we hit up the morning trip, we could then go out the inlets and try for some nice bluefish, sea bass, or striper. We can guarnatee our spot by calling the boat in advance. We won't be the only ones on there, but it shouldnt be too crowded becasue vacations really havnet started up yet. Leave a comment on your thoughts, other ideas, dates you or can't go, and others that might be interested. ALL ARE WELCOME!
