first off, sarah's safe in dublin. she called me around 5am to say she got in all right, and with all her luggage. yay! today, i have to start working on my political science paper. bleh. now for the fun:
i've been watching the UN security council session this morning...the french foreign minister just said that the use of force is not a way to bring democracy. hello? do any of you guys remember the french revolution? the civil war in which the french people overthrew the monarchy? was that not force? did it bring democracy to france?yes, yes, and YES! the "cluster document" that was recently disclosed by iraq admitting that it had been lying to and falsifying evidence to the weapons inspectors...what about that? isn't that non-compliance? the fact that iraq keeps giving up new papers and providing new weapons that they "found" and that were not declared in their mass declaration back in december? what about that stuff? doesn't that all violate resolution 1441? geez. this stuff is so black and white and russia and france and germany want to see the world in grays. the UN set a resolution that says "yes or no" and iraq said "maybe". when you have two choices, yes or no, and you don't choose yes, isn't that choosing no? partial disarmament is not immediate or full disarmament. believe me, i don't want a war to break out. especially while sarah is overseas. but the credibility of the UN is diminishing from some to none. they gave iraq a last chance. how many more "last chances" are we supposed to give them before someone does something? i'm not a violent person. i hate fighting. but sometimes you have to stand up and fight so you don't get walked all over. france and russia are saying "let's not fight at any cost". you know what's going to happen? they're gonna get the UN pushed around. when the UN is supposed to be the global authority for the international community, they need to take a position and stop being a pansy who's afraid they might break a nail.
