Many good things

Weekends at the moment are all so full and exciting. Despite feeling somewhat tired as a result, it seems weekends are much longer and more rejuvenating the more you pack into them.

Last weekend was: Danny Robins comedy fest, curry and meeting Pete's lovely new girlfriend; baking of magic cookies; Kerry and James Supremes fashion exhibition; dressing up as France to see off an old friend who is moving to China; and the 1970s drag club-skateboard park-cider quaffing-maypole dancing-pole dancing-teen indie pop-in the park sensation that was Lovebox. Goldfrapp, Rachel Unthank, Operator Please and Flaming Lips all marvellous.

This weekend has been about the always jolly V&A Village Fete; temporary tattoos of bunting; yet more cookies (try this recipe); sitting in the garden with new outdoor furniture and a million passion flowers beginning to open; sitting in the park with lots of people celebrating Steve's birthday and teaching Francesca how to crawl; drinking wine and discussing the chemistry of baking; watching Batman (which is really good, but wrong how many tiny kids were there, one throwing up in the bin perhaps at the horror of half burned face man); and making a fancy Jamie-Hugh-Nigella dinner for Anthony and Jaxx.

And! As if not enough excitement, Andy and Kelli had their baby last night! Poppy Olivia. Only 45mins of labour, she must have been keen to get here. So I have been busy being broody and finishing off the stitching on my poppy blanket and sewing up the little matching tortoise I made to go with it.

Phew. And work is also busy what with another village fete on the way, hunting down prizes and sponsors for Observer Food Monthly and developing a 'greenberry' system. I am going to be in charge of the office for a couple of weeks while the directors are in Canada. All hell may break loose! I do hope not. Seems I am going to have to go to my first ever pitch meeting by myself though. Ulp.

Wishing there were more weekends, wishing I had arranged to come to Edinburgh for one of them, wishing that it weren't the case that almost everyone is away on the weekend of my birthday party, as usual.
