I am so glad it finally snowed, here. A week ago I took Landon snowboarding for his first time and it was fun yeah but all the runs were covered in made snow and super groomed. It's the hardest part I think being a westcoaster living over here on the east coast is that your mountains are like baby mountains. I miss looking out and seeing snow all year round on the tips and I miss getting to go back country boarding whenever I wanted to without it being like some hassle of driving all the way up to Vermont and even until this weekend they had no snow and only crap for runs open.
I've been skiing since i could walk pretty much and it was like the thing my family did together. We traveled all over the west coast going to most of the big names. My dad lived in Colorado for awhile so we'd go down and visit and always hit the slopes. The three of us could enjoy it together. When i was about ten or so snowboarding was getting popular and it was the 'cooler' thing to do so I learned that as well. Lots fo falling and just like the beginning it took me awhile. But then I got the hang of it and was even more in love than I was with skiing (which i still do sometimes especially if my dad wants to go).
Anyways the mountain being scaled down was great for teaching Landon, he did really well! Obviously he was nervous about falling and getting hurt but he figured it out and once you get the hang of it then it's all about just going balls to the wall and letting go of your fear. I mean sure there is some skill too but you're more likely to stick big jumps if you arent' nervous the whole way through the air. He's not at jumps or tricks yet but I think next time we go we might be able to get off the bunny hill a bit more. Daniel is next in teaching too, I know he's more nervous and he hates snow seeing he's from Cali and all that but i just know he'll enjoy it once he gets over himself.
I'm more than happy to take anyone else who'd like to learn too. I work during the weeks but weekends are free and now that there is some snow on the ground there are a few decent mountains in day trip range. You just gotta be willing to chip in for some gas and pay your own lift tickets and rentals. Gear wise i can sort out just about anyone with gloves/helmet/hats that sort of thing. Even some jackets and board pants depending on your size so you don't need to like invest in anything fancy just to give it a go. I can also teach you how to ski if you'd rather. It might sound like work for me but it just gives me an extra excuse to go and while you rest after trying it out and drink your hot chocolate i'll hit the mountain my myself. If you already know how to that would be great too! I'd love some buddies who can keep up, not that i mind teaching beginners at all.
