“A Call to Arms” by Joseph Kibler
I’ll try my hardest if you try your hardest,
Let’s see how far we can throw,
If we make a bargain,
To resist the call,
A frightening voice isn’t it? The one buried down inside,
Listening, picking up on the things we dare tell no one,
So we’ll hide,
I’ll keep it, your secrets,
Your discreet bitter sweetness,
You are like subtext, between the lines,
I am the audience, dissecting every find,
Your honesty, it makes me feel less alone,
And the fact that you find comfort in my words,
You wish to know,
It keeps me going like a freight train, and I’m wondering,
What more can we show?
They’ll say we can’t win,
Too much to begin again,
But that doesn’t mean,
We can’t build our own society,
A platform, a dream,
I’m reckless in my creativity,
Such a dangerous thing,
I’ll keep it, your secrets,
Your discreet bitter sweetness,
You are like subtext, between the lines,
I am the audience, dissecting every find,
And days will come,
When all will want to know,
What we had learned so many years before,
Our bodies are young but our hearts they sure grow,
Oh how little do they know,
I’ll keep it, your secrets,
If you’ll keep mine,
I won’t go and fall down,
For fear we may collide,
So let’s make a truce,
To not be without truth,
Cause I will not be without you,
No I will not be without you,
So ignore the call for alarm,
This is a call to arms,
From your past, and future friend,
When the present feels at an end,
Just simply ignore, all the ringing and fear,
Cause you know that I’m here,
Your secretes they may hide, locked away in our minds.
