Our Bali Trip.....

....was fun but tiring. the plane ride was smooth and E was a real trooper where hours long journeys are concerned. we touched down to a wet and drizzling Bali. according to Waran, the chap who picked us up, it's been raining for the past 2 days. shared a van with a SPG from Singapore and her caucasian boyfren. now, i wasn't trying to be mean here, but she said some things about troublesome babies that irked me...so. anyway, we were travelling to their hotel first and this SPG asked Waran, a bimbotic question that earned her the SPG title: how do u all celebrate Vesak Day? where got celebration? Waran was floored by her question becos, frankly, he has never heard of this Vesak Day thingy ever. 80-90% of the Balinese ppl are Hindus, where the rest comprises of Muslim and Christian. Vesak Day is of course, a day celebrated by all Buddists....but i digress.

anyway, we reached the magnificent Hilton and spent the first day there in the hotel. it was raining on and off and dh didn't want to venture with E in the rain. we prayed for sunny weather before bed.

the next morning, blessed with good and sunny weather, we decided to head out to the beach for a while and detour to the swimming pool for a swim afterwards. thinking that the pool water should have been nice and warm after some 2 hrs of heating by the sun, we changed and dipped into the pool. big mistake there. the water was cool as ice but E insisted on playing in the pool. dh went to the adult pool to dip while i watched over E. after some 20 minutes, we retreated back to the hotel room and continued our water play in the bath tub.

we had made prior arrangement with Waran's fren to drive us to the infamous Tanah Lot and seafood dinner later part of the day. the driver picked us up on time and drove us to Kuta for some shopping first, since the best time to visit TL is sunset. Kuta has countless small shops selling more or less the same wares but due to some drainage works in progress, the narrow lanes became narrower and everywhere was hot hot hot. we prayed for sunny weather and we got it, so we shouldn't complain. the drive to TL was long and treacherous. many shabby roads and bumpy humps later, we reached TL and hiked up the rest of the 200m up to view the temple. Surrounded by the sea and built on a cave, this holy temple was said to be protected by a bevy of poisonous snakes, thus adding a mystic charm to the legendary site.

after that, we went for our promised seafood dinner and it took close to 2 hrs just to reach this restaurant that has tables and chair on the beach itself. with musicians serenading evergreen love songs in the background, the crushing waves and the starry sky, it was very very nice. dh attempted to take pixs of this beauitful scene, but the pics turned out to be too dark. :((

the 3rd day, we drew out of the free half-day tour becos we reckon it would be too rushed and tiring for E. instead, we grabbed a taxi to Denpasar for a look-see. even though Denpasar is the capital of Bali, it's surprisingly more backward than Kuta. we ended up in Kuta later for some shopping and dinner. E was a hit in Bali everywhere she goes. we met one Spanish and two American couples who really liked E a lot and came up to her to 'sayang' her. even the Balinese women are taken with E. they said she's so sweet and looks bigger than her 20 mths age. i think her chubbiness is the culprit.....:D

all in all, it was a pretty relaxing trip, although i was busy all day cleaning, bathing, feeding, patting, playing with E. they were right when they declare SAHM a 24/7 job with no leave!
