Hitchhiking to the Movies.

So, I just got back from Maine, I was visiting family, and whilst there I went to see The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy -- Movie.

It wasn't entirely what I expected.

Thats not to say it wasn't good, I really liked Martin Freeman playing Arthur, and Mos Def reminded me somewhat of my sister, randomly running around waving a towel is something I can picture her doing.

I didn't like Sam Rockwell with Zaphod, not because he's didn't act well, but because they completely butcher Zaphod, The head is supposed to be on his Shoulder, SHOULDER. It doesn't just pop out like that. He's supposed to be able to have conversations with himself. Hard when you have one head shoved in your chest, methinks.

Zooey Deschanel as Trillian was pretty good, though- she was too emotional, I think. Trillian allways struck me as a practical, modern woman of the 90's kind of girl. Still, she was pretty good.

I Loved Warwick Davis as Marvin the Paranoid Android. He has the absoulute perfect voice for him. I mean, When I read the book, I thought "Ben Stein" but after seeing the movie, its way better with Warwick Davis.

John Malkovich in as Humma Kaluva was pretty funny, I didn't recognize him at first, but his voice was really good for Humma. Though, I don't remember him being as big a character in the book as in the movie. Meh. Literary License.

I really liked the job Stephen Fry did as the Narrator/Guide. and Thomas Lennon with Eddie, the ship's computer. Both just about perfect. Only my voices for them were better. :)

I was disapointed that they didn't get into some of the funnier things in the book, like the discourse on towels. And they changed (in my opinion) too much. I understand you need to fit it all in a certain time slot, but really, it was to much. P-O-V guns were not even like- somewhat refered too in the book, much less made a central theme. And Arthur did not get the girl till way later. Meh.

On a scale of 1 to 42, I'd give it a 25-30 area score, I did kind of work up an image of the movie in my mind that was bigger than what I should have, but it would still have been slightly disapointing, methinks. The Special effects were really good though, and some parts had me in stitches waving my towel around like a maniac. So, uh, 10 out of 10 for effort, but minus several million for good thinking, eh?

Hey, I'm just this guy, you know?
