Scenes from a trip....

Hee - another post from me in just a few days :).

So I had a whirlwind trip to the greater Boston area last weekend just to visit w/brother sdavido, sister-in-law vettecat, and nephew H. It was a lovely time that included shabbos celebrating, walking to two different parks one w/brother and nephew and one on my own, and just relaxing.

In park w/brother and nephew I got to watch H. play and scale some milestones as well as getting to swing on a swing myself which I haven't done since a kid! Must do that more!!!! :) Walked to other park the next day cuz it has a pond with fountains, ducks and sometimes (though not this one) swans. I like to do this every visit cuz it replenishes me and helps me feel at peace.

Met a guy in airport like who had a guitar gig bag so of course I struck up a conversation :). Heck I start up conversations with so many folks when I'm in public places it cracks me up sometimes. Anyway turns out that he's based in Milwaukee and tours and makes a living at it. He'll be playing here in October though I don't remember his name or the guy he's opening for but maybe if I keep my eyes open it'll ring a bell. Not likely make it to a show at night - such an early bird now, but you never now.

I wanted to take a smaller bag and borrowed my mom's old rolling carryon that she used to use as a bookbag when teaching and the size was marvelous - that's definitely the size I need for a smaller bag. Heck even the baggage check person commented on how light it was! *lol* So happy I tried the experiment!! :) I decided no matter how cold I might get I was going to wear shorts in security this time. The last two times flying when they use the x-ray thing I get flagged as having a body "with anomalies". Having so much weight my body has a lot of loose skin and it's often confusing for people not to mention machines. (For those of you who don't know it was not by choice and I'm still a size acceptance proponant but that's all another story.) My legs kinda look like the bark of a tree trunk - not in color or texture but in the wrinkled way and so that's my theory as to why that's the part of my body that they pat down. Well even though they still patted me down, it was much less of a production than the last time so I think it was a good idea. I figure even if they can see the likely reason maybe if your flagged they just need to go through the process anyway. Or it might be cuz of something completely different but it only happens when they use the new x-ray machines.

More interesting conversations - on flight out I was sitting next to a family who had just come back from a dream vacation to Alaska (and had been to Hawaii a couple of years ago) and it definitely renewed my desire to get to both someday! On the flight back I was sitting next to a guy who actually lives in Hawaii (for the last 20 years) and got an interesting take on living there versus visiting. He brought up high high cost of living and high housing costs. Also the fact that unless you like the beach and things thatinvolve the water there wasn't much to do long term, and if you want to get to other places well then you have to pay to travel. He was kinda ready to leave and was moving back to California (originally from northeast) soon. He struck me as a world-traveling (he told me) world weary person but he gave me interesting food for thought and not a perspective I hear a lot about when folks talk about Hawaii.

All in all I had a terrific time and am so grateful to vettecat, S. and H. for making it go as smoothly as it did and sharing their lives with me.

See ya soon :).

keeping on
