check list

I love old RPGs. I am fascinated with them, even if World of Warcraft will ultimately consume all of my soul, I still buy old RPGs.

This vacation I got my hands on Grandia, Alundra, and Vanguard Bandits. All three games are awesome additions to my collection. Last night I won Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete on eBay. I also got the hardcover strategy guide (for free with the game!)

There are many old RPGs that I still want, but now that Lunar 2 (which was on the top of the list) is checked off, my sights are set to something much harder to find: Panzer Dragoon Saga (the four disk RPG Masterpiece / game that should have saved the Saturn.) This game goes for about $150 dollars, which is why I hadn't gotten it sooner. I need to save my money after buying five games in one month (I also got Legend of Dragoon but I don’t really consider it old, or hard to find, but it is still good.) I will probably end up having to buy a WoW game card before I can get my hands on PDS. But I will not die happy until I own that game.

Now, on to Lunar 2.

The game will most likely be on my doorstep in two weeks. I cannot express my excitement, for this game. In fact, I even get nervous when thinking about it. Lunar 2: Eternal Blue on Sega CD was the first RPG I had ever played. The opening cinema stunned me, and I was amazed with how awesome Hiro was. I was, however, a young, idiot kid. I must have been about nine. I didn’t know how to save, and I didn’t even really know what an RPG was.
I never owned Lunar 2, I just rented it from a place called Video Signals (where Danny Meyer used to work.) Once I decided to steal Lunar 2 from them. I put another CD in the case, and at the last moment snagged the instruction manual. I was, however (and still am) fascinated with complete packaging. I also felt really guilty, so I gave it back.
It is a good thing I waited to get my hands on it because the “Complete” edition for the Playstation is a wonderful thing to behold. It contains the game (which is now three disks,) a hardcover manual, paper figures, a making of movie, a soundtrack, and best of all Lucia’s Pendant (fuck yes!)

My dad thought it was lame that I wanted the pendant, but I think Brian put it best when he said “I thought the pendant was unnecessary, then I remembered how I wore it through the entire game.”

Now off to collect my Beaststalker set, and finish Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete. Not to mention the four other games I got this vacation.
