Well I finished reading some of elderchang's short story about the coming formic invasion and have added a new perspective to the imminent battles that steadily approach each and every one of us. Exactly. Since reefing is such a drain sometimes on the pocketbook, I can always "blame" it on the upkeep of my good ole' pal Checkers and friends. Granted the stripes on the clownfish do alternate, there is no checkered pattern (but maybe one will develop if I drink enough). Of course, everyone else in the family calls him Nemo, but I figure "Checkers" gives him a sense of individuality. He is a part of a community, an integral member with his sidekick the Rose Anemone, but at the same time she "is not a number". I am assuming Checkers is a girl... Clownfish start out being neither, then depending on circumstances, will upgrade to being a female if their is none around. Subsequent non-gender clownfish then become males.
