[Muse Pens] 4.5: Sydney Postcard
NOTE: Takes place after this.
Joe was still groggy when he asked for paper and pen, but not so much that he didn't have enough sense to know what was happening. He'd been shot, he'd been put under for surgery...and members of his family were in the waiting room, wondering. Probably the kids, probably not...he had no idea how serious his condition was yet, and he didn't know what Artie or Rian would tell them.
But Christine wasn't on his case, that much he was sure of...and he had another twenty minutes yet before he would come around fully, maybe more depending on what they gave him. The doctors would notify the others he was awake then...if he was lucky.
So a pilfered postcard and a black Sharpie were his quickest means to reassuring his loved ones...and although the handwriting was shaky and the note brief, it was enough in the hands of a sympathetic nurse to let Artie, Rian, Christine, and Gail know he was alive and well a solid half hour before the surgeon came out to tell them the same thing...along with just how long Joe would be making their lives miserable as he recuperated from his wound.
