My First 2015 Entry

Jan 21, 2015 22:22

I started a tutoring business and I am the only person who is an employee. Most of my readers do not know this but I also work for another tutoring center. I started working there back in October 2014. The tutoring center is run by two directors, who are really nice ladies. Also, there are four other women who work there as tutors. Most have experience as educators.

Let's do a quick recap of my situation.

About Me
Age: 30s
Education: Bachelor of Science in Mathematics
Career: no real career. I have been working as a tutor and can barely afford my living expenses

About My Business
Name: TutorCo (not its real name)
Founded: February 2009
Employees: 1 (myself)

One of the serious limitations to making my company grow is that there is so little opportunity to go beyond the normal working hours. Tutors generally work from 4:00 PM to 11:00 PM. The tutoring center that I work for closes at 8:00 PM. Work is somewhat sporadic as a tutor but I do have regular students and students who use my services less frequently. Also, there is one customer who uses me more frequenctly than others. They also pay me the most of all, but I work the hardest for them and tutor their student in the most difficult subjects. The student attends a school for gifted students and is aspiring to be an engineer. In some sense, I have a claim that I can tutor brilliant students but I also feel like I need a break at times.

My company needs a vision and a mission. The vision tells what exactly is to be done and the mission tells how the vision is to be accomplished. A mission statement is needed. Without a mission, the company's existence is useless.
