Call me silly...

But I got a little bug up my butt today... so I started digging around for stupid earmarks on new bills.

It didn't take long.

the ENERGY INDEPENDENCE AND SECURITY ACT OF 2007

has admittedly, not a bad one, but still an earmark. I'll get into this later...

So, tacked onto a bill to clean up our energy usage and such is this...
TITLE XIV--POOL AND SPA SAFETY

What the fuck?!
randomly, chucked in there is a portion dealing with child safety and pools.
to me this is stupid and waste of government in action.

here is why.

All these good bills get looked at, and in the write up process someone tacks on some BS. Suddenly, now you have this bill that started out wonderful, but you'll also be spending 5 million dollars in seven years to build some kind of public building that could probably be done for 1-2 million realistically.

I despise earmarks. They shouldn't happen. Bills should be pure. amended or not. They should be titled what they are and not deviate from that.

Earmarks should all be shoved to the end of the year. Once all the nationally important things are dealt with. Then, can senators come to squabble over where money goes for their pet projects and such.

There needs to be more focus in our governing system. Plus, the ability to discover who is accountable for what is scattered. I had websites sending me to other websites, which sent me to yet another website for the information I wanted. Wrong. This should be accessible to everyone and easily. There should be at least 1 person at each major library who knows how to find this information and help people get it. Why? Because like every other American I know, I have no clue what the Senate and House are doing. None. There is no accountability unless I make bloated efforts to get the information. Then, when I find it... its all written in legal-ees. So presentation needs to be made for an average person to understand it without paging through the clutter of documentation.

rant rant rant.... **rolls eyes**
