Over the last two and a half years, my life has been very different than I'd imagined.
When I moved into Chandler with Ethan, the Emams, and of course the Hank Cheese, the "AshyJoe Era" began. This marked the transition for me from a goofy, socially inept kid on a bit of an emotional roller coaster who spent way too much time focused on a streaky relationship and not enough time on the countless other enriching aspects of life to..... something a little different.
I learned how to drink and how to party. I expanded my customer service experience to the retail world, and affirmed my innate ability to rock out in high pressure situations. I screwed up my academic life (whoops). I made new friends, and unfortunately lost touch with many. More than anything, I rediscovered a modicum of my spark. I very much miss some of my old friendships, but have had so much fun in the last few months it would be hard to recount.
The theme for 2013 in this country has to be YOLO. "You only live once" has become so ubiquitous, it's even become a verb in this country. On spring break Uncle Glenn, Ambrose, and I spent a day in NYC dubbed "a day of YOLO." It isn't uncommon to refer to YOLOing, particularly as Clarence and I leave home for Burgerama at 2 pm on a Thursday, knowing full well that Friday and Saturday are going to involve excessive alcohol consumption as well. I work my 20-30 hours a week at Sam's, and I kick ass at my job. I've been attempting to finish out my degree requirements for Probability and Statistics, but admittedly, I don't give a flying fuck. I'm finished with undergrad this summer whether I actually get my degree or not, but I have faith that I'll be able to find a job or a next move. I'm ready to make a contribution, and focus on a job... the tedium of school and working a frustrating part time job are draining and distracting from things I find important in life. If everything turns out well, I might go for a grad program. Otherwise, I'll keep applying for jobs and if I don't find one by the time the summer is over, so be it.
This last weekend was awesome. I got to hang out with some of my new friends, Beggar's then Harper's on Friday was amazing, then B-Dubs on Saturday with some friends from work. All I know is, I'm beyond excited for this summer... (and of course as always, I'll try to update more.... we'll see how that goes!)
