Yesterday
Yesterday we had a state funeral here in Denmark. The Queen Mother died Tuesday last week at the age of 90. She was the widow of the late King Frederik the 9th who died 28 years ago. Despite her highness she was very well liked because of her straight forward attitude when she talked to people. The funeral was with full honours, horse drawn cart, Life Guard and Horse Guard escort, a train voyage with old steam engines in front,and a ceremony at the cathedral in Roskilde, where all the Kings and Queens have been buried for over 600 years. The late Queen Mother now rests besides King Frederik in an open air Chapel next to the Cathdral.
A sad occasion but a light toned ceremony, very much in her spirit.
