This is by no means all inclusive of anything, except what I remember as recently new to me.

Board Games

Agricola: I thoroughly enjoy this resource-management game. It's tough for me to categorize, which is good. The resource elements make me suspect that people who like Power Grid will like this, but I have trouble picking out exactly why. ( Read more... )

Wow, three of my favourite things - books, games and video games - what are the odds? :-)

I appreciate the reviews. I don't really get to update my blog with this kind of thing anymore, or else I'd do the same. I just recently became bored with Civ IV (no expansions) because the games were too identical after 9 months, and it seems nearly impossible to win a standard game at higher than Monarch level. Thus, I've been trolling for games and picked up Half Life from Steam (I'm new to both - I've been playing a lot of Magic for the past decade) so I actually know what you're talking about! I'm desperate for an RPG game to crave a D&D urge, and I'm aiming at the Elder Scrolls series once I escape the Black Mesa Reseach Facility.

I've been purchasing lots of boardgames recently, normally whatever hits the top of the boardgamegeek charts. Agricola looks like it might be worth it. Unfortunately, I can't gather the people together ot actually *play* the games, which is frustrating, though I suspect it's mostly a summer thing recently. I need more pale friends who shun the light.

When it comes to fantasy books, I strongly suggest you try Steven Erikson if you haven't already. If you like him, then I've just started the "Prince of Nothing" series by R. Scott Bakker that I'm really enjoying after book 1. I'm not sure if the series is over (I think 3 are out), but if you like political fantasy, "The Monarchies of God" by Paul Kearney was enjoyable as well.
