With it being our last full day, we had to make some tough decisions about what to get to and what to leave out. We had really hoped to visit the Lower East Side for some great food. And, we wanted to tour Brooklyn. But, we decided to skip those and do these things instead.
-Coffee at Starbucks. We had a 'new-to-us-companies-only' rule while in NYC. We wanted to avoid anything we were able to get back home so that we could try and experience new things. And, we did really well. Except that we were both feeling really sluggish this morning and worried we may not find a coffee place for awhile if we passed this up. So we stopped. I still feel guilty about breaking our rule. :p
-Walking down 10th Street was my favorite street in the city (that we experienced). It was a great mix of all different types/styles of restaurants, some hotels, some businesses, a lot of residences. I loved the vibe. We walked from 43rd to 17th and then realized that the High Line had started several blocks north and we had been walking next to it instead of on it.
-Walking the High Line was something that was highly recommended by many people. It was great to see flowers and greenery right in the middle of the city! But, because I'm so used to foliage, I kind of felt like I was missing out of what was happening down on the street. The benches and views were awesome, though!
-Chelsea Market was cool. It's a place I've heard so much about; it was neat to experience it. I had imagine a LOT more shops and fruit stands and was kind of surprised at how small it was. But, I loved meandering. We bought some tea (my only souvenir from the trip), which will be a fun reminder as I make/drink it.
-Quick Lunch at Morimoto. Yum!!! We neither one like sushi, but there were enough things on the menu I thought we'd eat that I really wanted to go. I'm glad we did!
-Intrepid Tour. Chris really wanted to go on the Intrepid Aircraft Carrier (which is now a museum). He totally geeked-out and loved it. I found it neat to see the inside passageways/rooms of the ship. It's crazy to imagine what it looked and sounded like when it was a working vessel. Part of the tour took us through a submarine as well.
-Boat Tour. We did the Circle Line Semi-Circle tour which took us around the lower half of the island. After having seen SO much of the city, it was cool to get a different view of the island and buildings. We saw more of New Jersey than we had seen, too. It was a gorgeous day on the water!
-The craziest subway experience thus far. Apparently getting a subway from the Times Square station at 5:40 pm is not a wise idea. And, transferring at Grand Central is an even worse idea. The subway cars were packed; it was like nothing I had ever seen before. We couldn't get on the first two trains because there was no more room. Then, while trying to get on the third train I was pushed and shoved from every direction. It was nuts.
-Dinner at The National. Unbelievable. So amazing. The best meal EVER. I'm so, so, so glad we went! Everything was delicious and I am in LOVE with the ambiance. It's really upscale/nice while still feeling very down-to-earth and casual.
-Comedy Show at Dangerfields. It was hilarious! We were hoping a well-known comic would pop in to try some new material, but that didn't happen. There were five comedians who performed; all of whom were really, really funny. It was a SMALL crowd so there was plenty of participation/conversation with pretty much every person in the audience. It was kind of fun to feel like we got to know each other, too.
-The plan was to get frozen hot chocolate at Serendipity. But, for whatever reason, we decided to just walk past. I'm not even sure why, because it was something I had been looking forward to. I thought we could hit it up the next morning (but that ended up not being possible).
-Frozen custard at Shake Shack. We walked past the Theatre District location every day and swore we'd go there, but were never patient (or hungry) enough to stand in the line. Since it was our last night and there was NO line, we went for it. :)
