sandwich

Apr 17, 2008 17:01

I am now officially part of the sandwich generation.

This morning as we were pulling in to work, I got a call from the hospital where my mother had checked in for a medical procedure at 7:00. She was now in recovery. Could I come get her in about 20 minutes?

I dropped Tom off at his office and drove over to the hospital. I picked up mom from recovery and drove her home. I made sure that she had something to eat and was feeling well enough to be alone before I left. On the way back to work I picked up some lunch to eat, talked with a school about enrolling Jeffrey (they called me), parked and got up to my office at about 11:45.

I had been in my office for about 5 minutes when Tom called saying that according Jeffrey's preschool he had a fever of 102 and a sore throat and needed to be picked up. Since I have more than 7 weeks of sick time accrued to Tom's many fewer hours, I left work to take our boy home.

I'm glad that my boss is so reasonable.
