I leave for Europe tomorrow. It feels like time is flying by, but slugging forward all at the same time.
I had my last shift at La Collina a week ago and it was very anti-climatic. I wish my last shift had been that Saturday because I actually had fun and left with happy thoughts. Last Monday I started early, I was working with an alcoholic, drug addict and the cashier was on her break. I basically spilt a whole bowl of 300 degree soup on my hand and it was lobster red for the rest of my shift. When the cashier came back, I decided to get out of there and make a money run to Hillside Mall. I think if I had stayed any longer I might have ripped off a customers head and stuffed it with brioche bread pudding. While walking back from the mall a man/perve decided to flash me his hot pink and blue man thong... an image I will never forget unfortunately.
Tuesday, the first of my days off, I got sick. Clearly my immune system was as stressed out about stuff as I was and the as soon as I sort of relax it decides to attack me. Such is life. I've been trying to get stuff done (packing, buying stuff, getting money, hanging out with people I care about) while trying to relax at the same time and that hasn't really worked so well. I'm still sick nearly a week later, but at least I don't have strep throat.. just some nameless illness that my body has to figure out how to rid itself of on its own.
I've spent the weekend with Graeme, which has been nice. I've really started to enjoy this non-working thing, non-waking up at 5am to open up a bakery on a Saturday, not dealing with stupid managers/customers/employees! I've gone back a couple times to have coffee with co-workers and they had gossip to give me after two days. For the record, we had a bread-machine expert take a look at our loud and ancient slicer and he took it apart to find a mouse skeleton lodged in the motor. EW! It purrs like a kitten now though, without all those bones and mousey matter in the way. If that foodsafe lady found out... Yikes!
Anywho, Justine, I will miss you and your cynical humour and will try and stay in touch as much as possible. Keep your little head up, keep your hands out of those greasy friers and study hard for your L test! Everyone else.. ah who am I kidding, Justine is the only one who reads this! Aufweidersehen!
