There was nothing I loved more than waking up to my son AND my husband, looking adorable as ever having some daddy/son time. What made this morning even better was when the nurse walked in on the three of us cuddling and talking to inform us that today would be Landon's weigh-in. If he passed the 6 pound mark and, of course, all his other tests, he would be released today. I planned on stuffing his diaper with quarters so that he could make the weigh-in. Not really, but I sure as hell had thought of it. "He sure as heck feels heavier," I leaned my head back so that Cody had more access to my neck, encouraging him to continue kissing at it. I had felt so unsexy this past week that I had been in the hospital. A hospital gown, a bloody vagina, no makeup and picked up hair can do that to you. But Cody's kisses and love always made me feel better. "I can use Landon is my free weights when you start training me," I joked. When he finally pulled away from kissing at my neck, I told him that he should go pull out Landon's going home outfit, in case he did go home today. I had faith and hope that he would go home today. He was already a healthy, normal weighing baby and he didn't need anything that we can't provide for him at home.
Cody looked through our combined luggage and pulled out his tiny little dino outfit that we had both fallen head over heels for. Although I can imagine now it might be a little bit big on him. We had no idea he would be born early so we've been getting him newborn sizes instead of preemie ones. I picked up Landon from the bed and laid him on my shoulder so that I could sit up. I gently shook my shoulder so that he'll stay calm at the sudden change in his position and once he felt comfortable, I stood up and handed him to Cody so that we can change him into the outfit. About halfway through us dressing him, our nurse walked in and said we could bring him over to the examination room so that they can run a few tests on him. Cody finished dressing him while I put on a pair of sandals and then we walked over to the room the nurse led us to. I was able to walk now but I still went at a slow pace because if I walked to fast or did a sudden movement, my private part would start to hurt. After all, I did pop a nearly 6 pound baby out of that thing.
The first thing they did was pinch his poor little arm with a needle to fill a test tube up with his blood, in order to check everything in his blood. They sent it off to the lab so that they can run the tests on it while they checked on everything else. But my poor baby was crying after being poked, and I don't blame him whatsoever. I reached out to grab him and comfort him but I suddenly stopped myself. I had to remember that I had to share him with Cody and I couldn't just be the only one always carrying, feeding and comforting him, despite my instincts always trying to help him out. "Get him baby. He likes it when you carry him," I smiled at Cody who reached down to pick him up from the bed. He slowly rocked his arms back and forth, making Landon feel like he was on a swing. And in no time, Landon's cries silenced as his eyes closed and he ended up falling asleep. Once he quieted down, the nurse asked us to place him on the scale for measuring his weight and height.
I held my breath as Cody placed him on the cold, metal scale. I closed my eyes, scared to see what number it would stop at. But when I heard them both celebrating, I opened my eyes to see that my little Landon now weight 6 pounds and 2 ounces!!!! My little dinosaur was a big, healthy boy now! "You dinosaur!" I shouted out, still in shock. Cody wrapped an arm around my shoulder and pulled me in for a hug. The nurse let us know that we can start packing up our stuff and setting up the car seat in the back seat of our car while she waits for the blood work to come in. I picked up Landon from the scale and led the way to our room, with Cody catching up to my turtle paced walk in no time. "Since you walk faster, you should bring the car to the front of the hospital and set up the car seat while I pick up everything in our room. Is that okay?"
After being pricked, Landon started to cry and big fat tears rolled down his cheeks. I frowned and picked him up, rocking him to calm him down. Landon started to calm down a little, but tears were still in the corners of his eyes and occasionally rolled down. "Big tough boy, aren't you? They're almost done poking and prodding you." The nurse waited until he was calm and even fell asleep before asking me to place him on the scale. I laid him down on the cold scale, wishing they had someone that wasn't metal! I watched as the number slowly climbed out. I jumped up and shouted in excitement the second it hit 6 lbs. Demi started celebrating with me and I pulled her into a big hug. I let her out of the hug and leaned down and gave him a kiss on his forehead even though he was sleeping through the celebration. The nurse told us we could go ahead and start packing our stuff and readying the car to take him home while we waited for the blood work. I nodded and Demi picked Landon up and led the way to our room. Half way to our room, Demi suggested I go get the car and ready it for him and I nodded, a little against leaving them but what choice did I have?
"Yeah, I'll go get it." I walked in the opposite direction, grabbing out my phone to text everyone that we got to take him home. I practically ran to the SUV and grabbed the car seat from the trunk. I scratched at my head as I tried to figure out how to put it together. I set it in the car then pulled the seatbelt through the little hooks. I rough shook and pulled at it to make absolutely sure that it would be safe for him. Sure enough, it was solid as a rock for which I was glad. I walked around the car and jumped into the front seat, feeling weird being back in the driver's seat after a week of not driving. I slowly drove to the front of hospital to the little designated area for picking up patients. I turned the car off and walked into the hospital and headed towards our room. Demi was having difficulty getting both Landon and the bag so I leaned down and picked the bag up, especially since it was kind of heavy now. "Ready to go home?" She told me on the way that all of his blood work had come out perfect and I grinned. He had a rough start but now he was healthy as could be. I stopped at the front desk to check us out quickly then led the way to the car.
I was so jittery to get home and see the kids. I knew they'd probably be way too excited and I'd have to pen them up before Demi came in with Landon. "Hey baby?" I asked her on the way home. "I want you to stay in the car so I can get the kids in their room so you can bring Landon in and to his room." I looked over at her, "I just don't want Venice to get so excited that he doesn't even see Landon." Demi agreed to that and since Landon was sleeping, we could place him in his crib to go see them and dote on them for a bit. I couldn't help but grin as I pulled into the driveway and left the keys in the ignition while I hopped out of the car. I grabbed the bag from the bag and headed towards the house. I opened the door to the house and didn't hear a single bark which was rare. "Venice? Bella?" That was all it took. I heard frantic steps and barks just before I was bulled over by a large black mass. Venice licked at my face and I wrapped my arms around him in a big hug. "I missed you too, buddy boy!" Bella was right behind him, jumping my chest to lick at my face. "Ahhh, I missed you guys so much!" I slowly stood back up and led them to their room. "I need you guys to stay in here for 5 minutes, okay? 5 minutes and I'll be back with... MOMMY!" Venice's ears perked up and he started whining and was having difficulty sitting still. I ran back out to the car, laughing at their excitement. "Okay, baby, let's go." She picked Landon up from the back seat and we walked inside and up to the nursery and placed a sleepy Landon in his crib. "Let's go see the kids and then we'll introduce them to Landon, okay?"
I waited in the car, just staring silently at my beautiful son. I seemed to be doing that a lot these past few days. I just didn't have the confidence to be outgoing or talkative lately. Except when it came to my husband and son because I knew that both of their loves for me were unconditional and that they would never judge me or shun me based on my appearance. But I pulled away from staring at my sleeping son when I heard Cody's footsteps approaching. I undid his buckle in the carseat and carried him onto my shoulder, patting his back softly so that he remained asleep. Cody led the way upstairs and to Landon's room before I placed him inside his crib, the crib he probably won't be using too often in the upcoming weeks because I don't think I can part from him. Cody grabbed my hand and pulled me excitedly to go see the kids. The second he opened the door, it was as if Venice had smelled me from miles away. He charged at me and got on his two hind legs, jumping up and licking and clawing me while doing so. I tried leaning down to hug him in return but he was just to jittery and I had to take a step back and get behind Cody because his claws left quite a few scratches on me.
"Venice, chill out," I told him in a stern voice, which cause him to sit down and look at me with a sad face. I leaned down to pick up Bella and gave her a kiss on the her nose, while Lou rubbed his face against my toes. "I'm sorry Venny, it's just you can't act like that if the baby is around. Plus I'm still injured," I spoke to him as if he even understood me. "I'm happy to see you too though, my boy," I reached out a hand and scratched at the top of his head. "I missed all of you kiddies so much. Can we turn on the baby video monitor so that he stays sleeping and we can go to our room?" Thank goodness for Cody getting bored easily so we got everything in Landon's room set up and finished months before I was even due. If he was a procrastinator, his room would have been bare since we had Landon earlier than expected. Cody ran back upstairs and to Landon's room to turn on the video camera while I picked up Zuko and Lou and had the other two pets follow me up the stairs and into our bedroom.
I put Lou and Zuko at the foot of our bed and I supermanned my body onto my bed, letting out a long, relaxed sigh as my body absorbed the comfortableness of our bed. I have slept in my fair share of hotel rooms all over the world, but never have I felt a bed as comfortable as ours. A few seconds later, Cody started speaking to me so I opened my eyes and pushed myself up with my elbows. He explained to me that he set the big tv monitor for us to check on Landon on the nighttable next to our bed but that if we want to walk around the house, that's what the little, portable monitor is for. I grabbed ahold of it and pressed it to my heart, as it felt weird being without Landon for even a few minutes. Cody helped Bella and Vennysaurus onto our bed before he jumped onto it himself, letting our a similar sigh of relief. "Feels good, huh?" I told him as I shimmied my body closer to his to cuddle. "Now this is how a real cuddle session goes," I told him, Venny by my butt, Zuko on Cody's head, Bella above us on our pillows and Lou purring by our feet. "For our next kid, we're giving birth in the house and hiring a whole staff," I joked. I wasn't tired cause we had a few long naps the past few days, every time that Landon would nap. So all I wanted to do was talk to my husband. My social skills hadn't been very high up there in the past week. I wouldn't say more than a few words to my family, the nurses and my doctor, mostly just answering their questions. I could feel them staring at my ugly stomach when they were trying to talk to me, probably wondering why I still looked pregnant. It dissuaded me from wanting to talk to people. "We should give Kyle some money for taking care of the pets all week, baby," I told Cody, leaning my head into his chest. I wanted to ask him when slash if he was going to invite his friends over to meet Landon but I was scared to know the answer. I didn't want them to see me looking like this, especially his female friends.
My eyes opened wide when Demi yelled at Venny because Demi had never done that before to him. She always gave me a talk whenever I scolded him. Demi asked if we could turn on the baby monitor so she could still see him but be with the kiddies. "Yeah, I'll go get it!" I ran up the stairs then quietly slipped into the room. I turned on the monitor and stared down at him, getting lost for a moment. I couldn't help but stare at him, he was a little miracle. I shook my head and headed out to go back to our room. "Alright, so I have the big monitor set up on the bedside table and then this here," I held up the walkie talkie looking monitor, "Is so we can walk around the house and still keep an eye on him." Demi grabbed it from me and held it to her chest as if it was Landon himself. I frowned, ready to put the kids up and go get Landon to put back in her hands. Demi was so terrified that Landon would be taken from her that it broke my heart. I scooped Belly up onto the bed and Venny jumped up so just his front half was on the bed then whined at me to help him up. "You are so pathetic," I laughed as I picked him up the rest of the way. I finally got to lay in our bed and I let out a sigh. My back had started to bother me from the hospital bed and the cramped quarters and this felt like Heaven. I moaned in response to Demi's question as she cuddled closer to my body. I felt Zuko burrowing into my hair and I smiled as I turned towards Demi.
I nodded, "I know, I have that covered, baby. I'll write him a check and drop it off in a few days. He knows we're good for it." Demi cuddled into my chest and I wrapped my arms tightly around her. "How're you feeling, baby?" I pushed her hair out of her face so I could see her eyes. "Anything hurting?" She waved off any aches or pains she had. I gently rubbed her back, "I don't think I've told you this, baby, but you did an incredible job delivering him. You were so strong." I kissed her forehead then her lips. "I think we should just lay here for the next week. I'm not sure I'll be able to get up to do anything," I joked. "I have my iPhone so we can order online somewhere then it'll be like when I was a kid. 'Mommm someone's at the dooooor.'" I grinned when Demi giggled softly. Bella stretched herself out and pawed my forehead and I reached out and pet her head. She and Venice were both still wide awake, probably making sure we didn't leave again. "Yeah, baby Belly, mommy and daddy are home. You don't have to worry about that anymore." Demi was being so quiet and I wondered if she'd fallen asleep but she was looking at the monitor that laid between us, "Baby, do you want to go get him? The kids have calmed down so maybe we can introduce them one at a time."
Cody looked through our combined luggage and pulled out his tiny little dino outfit that we had both fallen head over heels for. Although I can imagine now it might be a little bit big on him.
