1 yr to the end of the world, yo.

2010 was a pretty good year.

To sum up some of the highlights of the year in 1 sentence: Got some of my wisdom teeth out, met (ok "met" is stretching it a little, more like pushed and shoved my way to) matt bellamy and got his autograph, saw muse live, saw kings of convenience live, turned 21, had a super fun internship, met some cool people, finally achieved my dream of seeing spain win the world cup, went for f1 and saw Fernando Alonso claim pole position live (and saw adam lambert too), got the last of my wisdom teeth out. See, it all came full-circle, started and ended the year with the wisdom teeth thing.

Movies
1. Kajinek.
Inception and Shutter Island were great, but I think Kajinek is my favourite movie of 2010. Ok, so I obviously have a biased opinion because this has Konstantin Lavronenko (whom i like more than Putin and whom has displaced Norton) in one of his rare rare films. I don't know why the man doesn't make more movies because I have gotten my hands on everything I can possibly watch, including shows with bad subtitles that I could hardly understand. Currently, I'm only left with a Russian tv series with no subtitles at all and some weird Polish circus movie, also with no subtitles. Which is incredibly sad! The world needs much much more of Konstantin Lavronenko and his enigmatic appeal.
Anyway, Kajinek is awesome to me because it has everything I find awesome, Konstantin Lavronenko, prison life, A PRISON BREAK, which is based on a true story and so makes it even cooler, and good chemistry between the two leads. Fantastic movie.
2. The book adaptations - The Town and Never Let Me Go. Although NLMG has mixed reviews and The Town was pretty much loved by critics, I preferred how NLMG was adapted to how the adaption of The Town was done. The Town was a pretty good movie, but I loved the book so much more, and NLMG I felt was a better realization of its source material. (Or I could be biased because I think Carey Mulligan was great) In both cases though, the books were ultimately much better. And so I think I should stop wanting my favourite books to be made into movies because it affects the way I remember reacting to them while reading them, and most of the time not in a very good way.

TV
This was a bad year for TV! New shows weren't very good and old shows declined.
Thank goodness I discovered the Mentalist during exams. It's all the tv I've been watching these days. And I usually hate these police procedurals because I can only really get into shows that have overarching storylines instead of self-contained episodes.
But the Mentalist has such great, likeable characters. (Watching the Mentalist makes me realize how awful the characters on a lot of shows are. Glee for example. No one I really care about, some I hate. Gossip Girl too.)
Patrick Jane is, I think,  the best character on tv right now. There just isn't anyone as interesting or complex as him. And he and Lisbon have that Mulder-Scully-ish vibe which I love. Of course, no duo on screen, not for lack of trying (think bones, castle) will ever match up to the epic-ness of Mulder and Scully, but jane/lisbon is pretty cool.
Props to Bruno Heller for creating another, vastly different tv series after Rome.

Books
1. A Hundred Thousand Kingdoms was pretty good. There was a scene towards the end that was dodgy and the ending itself wasnt the best, but other than that, I liked the invented mythology in this book. Wished it had more court intrigue though. AS WAS PROMISED IN THE BLURB. I like court intrigue.
2.  The Vampire Tapestry, which is an old book but great. Loved it, one of the best vampire books out there. For people who hate twilight vamps.
3. Kate 4. This series just gets better and better.

And now....

Movie list for next year!
1. The Cabin In The Woods. Joss Whedon!!!!!!!!!!!!
2. Jane Eyre, maybe. Not too fond of the casting and I don't think this will be better than the 2006 bbc version, but I'll give it a shot.
3. Water For Elephants. HATE that pattinson was cast in this and have a feeling this will ruin how i feel about the book. But I still can't stop myself from watching this.
4. The Oranges. Curious how the Hugh Laurie and Leighton Meester thing is gonna work out.
5. Priest, maybe. Looks like a fun movie.
6. X-Men First Class. I'll watch any and every x-men film that doesn't focus on Wolverine.
7. Immortals. Maaaayyyyybe. A bit doubtful of its quality, will see how the trailers go.
8. Captain America. Maybe. I have below zero interest in Captain America but ironically this apparently has some very cool British people I like, e.g. Natalie Dormer and Richard Armitage.
9. Drive. Carey Mulligan and Ryan Gosling in an action film!! Not missing this.
10. Drive Angry 3d. I am dying to watch this because it has william fichtner being badass and few pple do badass better than him. Think bank manager shooting in dark knight and alexander mahone in prison break. Can't wait!
11. W.E. The fact that this is directed by Madonna irks me a little, but this is about a royal scandal and has Natalie Dormer, so I'm in.
12. Fright Night. Anton Yelchin and David Tennant! Fun movie!

Ok that's pretty much it.
