The demise of the New Right

Dear Citizens of the United States,
I would like to express my strong feelings of pride and admiration for each and every one of you concerning the events that have taken place in regards to yesterday’s midterm elections. I must say, I am thoroughly impressed. You have chosen to rebuke President Bush and his politics of fear, bigotry and elitism in favor of a more progressive, tolerant and enlightened state posture that will no doubt make this world a better place. It is because of all of you, the majority of Americans who yesterday voiced your beliefs that our country is headed in the wrong direction, that today we have a Democratic controlled House of Representatives, a majority of Democratic governorships and after the certification of Jim Webb's victory in Virginia, will be in control of the Senate. Well done.
I would especially like to address the people of Montana, who defeated an ignorant, conservative tyrant and ended his reign of racism and stupidity once and for all. I have faith that Jon Tester will work ten times harder for Montana than Conrad Burns ever did, and he'll do it all with only seven fingers, which makes him all the more amazing. Still, we have work to do. The closeness of this race has demonstrated that there are still many Montanans who are living in the dark and who still give credence to the conservative world view of stagnation, corruption and privilege for the few. This needs to change. Yesterday was a good start, but it was just that, a start. Don't give up the fight. With more work and organization, we can send a Progressive to the US House two years from now, as well as to the White House.
For now, you should celebrate and give yourselves a pat on the back. Just remember that although we've won the battle, there's still a war raging out there.
Kindest Regards,
Nicholas James Christensen
