TS3 > TS2 Object Conversion: Some stupid questions.

POW! POW! SCREEK! I' m trying to learn how to convert TS3 Maxis objects for TS2! I got a bit confused, though. I really hope someone can help me out... Here's what I did, basically:
  • I cloned a TS2 base game chair (the Simple Seat one). There's no actual reason why I chose that one. I know it's probably not correct, but I thought any basa game chair would do.
  • I extracted the TS3 chair (and its textures) using TSR Workshop. I did my thing in Milkshape -- I imported both meshes, moved/resized the TS3 chair to match the TS2 proportions and deleted the TS2 mesh (group) when I was done. The converted chair only has one group. Does that make sense?
  • In SimPE, I replaced the GMDC. I can see the converted chair in the preview, so everything seems fine. 
Problems:
GUID Registrations seem to be disabled? I followed Echo's advice to get a GUID. Where do you guys get yours from? Is there any other method?
The object texture won't show up. I'm not quite sure what to do with the UV Mapper. Does it make sense to load the already mapped model (it's a Maxis chair), save it again and re-import it into Milkshape as "mapped mesh"? I feel so stupid right now. But I'm motivated, huzzah!
