Ralph Nader is an utter asshole for running. This is the guy who pops up every 4 years to complain about corporate power but spends the intervening years utterly silent. Where was he when the government suspended habeus corpus or started spying on their own citizens without warrants or fucked up so royally in New Orleans? Where was he when the White House outed an undercover CIA officer? Where was he when we went to war on incredibly flimsy evidence? Hell, where was he - who is supposed to be so interested in consumer protection - when the definition of "organic" was getting so watered down as to be meaningless, or when kids were getting toys with lead paint or the family dog was chowing down on anti-freeze? Oh, that's right. Nowhere.
When we need him, he's not around.
If that reads like "and progressives owe the Democrats their votes" to you, then I don't know what to say, because that's not my problem. Of course nobody owes their vote to anybody. I don't think there's any conflict with believing that, and simultaneously believing that Ralph Nader is an asshole. If he really was a tool of the Republicans, he wouldn't act much differently now would he?
