Joanna's list of suggested fun stuff to get for people, or to buy for yourself in an unanticipated moment of self-indulgence:
1.
The Atari Flashback 2.0 This is so cool! A modern plug 'n play verision comes complete with joystick, controls and even the original wood grain paneled look of the original. Also has 40 classic games preloaded, like Pong. Mmmmhhhh, Pong.... Twenty five smackers gets you the whole thing at best buy.
2. Cool tee-shirts from
www.mothershiptshirts.com Okay, so we all have more damn tee-shirts than we know what to do with. So why buy another one? 1) Your loved one gets to maximize the time spent between having to do laundry, and 2) these are damn funny. 3) Also, this is my friend Brian's new company and I'd like to help him pay the rent.
3.
Lomographic Pop9 Camera This is one of those gadgets that you pick up, thinking, "wow, this is awesome!!" and then use it once or twice and then stick in a drawer somewhere and forget about it til your remote control battery dies and you can't think of anywhere else to get an AA battery at 2 in the morning and then sift through your drawers and take the battery out of this thing so you can surf between South Park and various infomercials, you lazy bastard.
(But it's still pretty awesome.)
The camera's got nine lenses that are a few millimeters apart from each other, so you get nine mini-photos, each of the same thing from slightly different angles.
4.
Foosball table Nothing says "I love you" as much as a foosball table does, if you ask me. (Right, Mike??) It's fun, it's fun, and it's fun! They'll totally love it, I guarantee it. And hopefully, unlike Mike, your loved one will not leave it out on the streets of Manhattan unattended so that some punk kids take it. Grrrr.
5.
Portable boot/glove dryer So they can have dry boots and gloves, wherever the heck they be at.
6.
Settlers of Catan In my book, the second most awesome game in the entire universe. Or as my friend Tom likes to tell people, "It was voted best new game in Germany in 1995." (or was it 1996?)
7.
Custom blended perfume Talk about self-indulgent!! And doncha think it's loads better than getting a basket with a loofah and soap on a rope?
8.
A home brewing kit This is what I got Paul for Christmas (so, um, hopefully he won't be reading this blog entry until next year, so the surprise isn't ruined!). I was telling my boss about it and she decided it was so great that she got her husband one too.
I don't think I need to explain to you why this is awesome, do I??...
You're welcome! =)
