Routines

I don't know who reads Flylady's mailing list, but if you do, did you see the email Flylady sent out 2 days ago, about "dancing" as a Payroll SHE (SHE = Sidetracked Home Executive)? Often the emails to Flylady don't really apply to my life. Her default audience is stay-at-home moms. This post came from a lady with a full time job outside the home and no kids..and some health problems. I was struck by how simple it was and what a good use of her time it was. The core of it is a series of 5 3-step "dances" that she did during the day. So, she had 5 routines:

1. First thing in the morning - dress, make bed, "reboot" laundry
2. Before leaving for work - breakfast dishes, swish & swipe, 5 minute room rescue
3. After work, while dinner cooks  - Kelly's mission, a house blessing task, a zone chore
4. After dinner - dishes, shine sink, sweep kitchen floor
5. Before bed - turn off computer/tv @ 9:30, take shower/bath, lay out clothes

She also heavily uses her lunch time for tasks, such as bill paying, errands, and meal planning.

Some of it sounds like way too much, but a lot of it seems really doable for me to add in, too. My current routine is heavily weighted to the after work/evening. I don't know if I'll ever wake up with enough time in the morning! Also, I'm not sure what she's cooking, but I don't have that much time away from the stove! I might have some, but a lot of what I cook is quick stove top type stuff that needs babysitting. I think there's a lot I can take from this to incorporate into my own routines. I'm not sure about the errand thing - I hate running errands at lunch, and I'm not paid for my lunch so the less I take the sooner I can leave at the end of the day (mostly). I have this nagging feeling I don't use my time efficiently, though, and this gives me some ideas.
