You may have heard about this whole peanut butter = salmonella thing we got goin' on right now. What I hadn't heard was that they're still adding more and more items to the list of contaminated products.
My coworker's aunt works for the FDA and is currently working on this peanut butter case. Her personal advice is to not to eat anything with peanut butter right now -- not just limited to what's on the current list of recall products.
She said the list of potentially contaminated products is continuing to expand, and they're adding new products daily, so it’s best to stay away from it all together for a while. (This is especially important for kids, because they are the most vulnerable.) What she's doing now is going into stores to make sure they have the listed products off of their shelves, and of course not all of them do. The main culprits are gas stations and convenience stores (peanut butter crackers, etc.).
So: Choose your peanut butter wisely.
She did have these helpful links, though, if you're interested.
This is the FDA's FAQ page.
This is the list of recalled products, and they update it daily. This has expanded back to products purchased any time after January 1, 2007. You can also search for particular products or brands.
