Rabbit Check-up

Jun 25, 2008 11:09

We took the rabbits back to the vet yesterday to get Cadbury her two week check-up for her ear infection, and it's gone! Yay! It is such a relief. Now we won't have to fight with her every morning anymore to give her the oral meds that she hates, we gave her the last dose this morning. I think we'll continue to give her the ear drops, but maybe only once a day until the bottle runs out. But now we don't have to worry about x-rays, surgery, and big bills. She just wants to see her again in about a month to do another follow-up check-up and make sure that it's not coming back.

We also had the vet check out some bald spots and she doesn't think it's mites. Which is good. Snoopy, at least we think it's Snoopy, had given himself a large (3"-ish radius) bald spot on his left thigh, and seemed to be aggressively grooming Cadbury, giving her bald spots all over with scabbing bite marks in the center. We think it was just aggressive grooming because they would still groom each other and she would still hang out with him, so we know it wasn't fighting. But the really weird thing is that he would eat the hair. While we hadn't seen him pulling out fur on either himself or Cadbury, I have seen him hop over to a clump of fur that had come out with all the shedding, and just suck it up like a vacuum, and there was no sign of all the missing hair from the bald spots. Weird rabbit. I think we're going to have to get some papaya supplements to help move stuff along so that we won't have to worry about blockages, since rabbits can't hack up furballs. As for the bald patches, we'll just keep an eye on them, and if there are any new spots, of which there haven't been for about a week, and we'll let the vet know.

Yay! It's so good to know that my bunnies are healthy. I can deal with weird.
