This is the first HP fic I've read in months, apart from a few drabbles.

I like what you did here, how this story is such a beautiful amalgam of both verses, how the bleak tone reflects Draco's fate. Kaylee's POV brought the perfect distance to present Draco in this universe, it was compassionate enough, but not too close.

I've always thought that leaving his home must be one of the worst things that could happen to Draco, because his is where his heart lies. And seeing him in space breaks my heart every time, because he's so far away from home and I cannot stop thinking how bad it must be for him if he prefers the distance to staying. I think that his only reason to travel to the stars was that the connection he made to them as a child, and the hope they could be his home, too, after he had lost the first place he called home - where the Mark on his arm would always mark him as a former Death Eater.

I felt so sorry for him, stranded at Serenity, and I loved the bit of pre-slash at the end.

out here it doesn't mean anything.

Heartbreaking and true and maybe the only kind of comfort for men like Draco and Reynolds.

I'm glad this worked so well for you. I debated quite a bit with myself if I wanted to have the parts on Serenity from Mal's POV, or even Draco's, but in the end I always returned to Kaylee because she's the perfect choice if you want to convey hope - which I did.

Thank you so much for reading and commenting! :)
