March Birthday Recs
This year I thought I'd do something different for your birthdays. Each month there will be a rec-post in which I rec fic/art/... made by the birthday kids. I'll try to rec lesser known fics or pairings, or older things that somehow stuck with me.
These birthday recs make me realize how little fic I've read by some people on my flist. This makes me feel slightly ashamed. :/

It appears that aerowank has recently (around the end of March 2010) locked all of her Merlin and Merlin RPS fics. This makes me sad. But it can't be helped. It also means that the links don't work, but I'll leave these recs here anyway.
aerowank is schmoooop's fanfic journal. I have so much love for her use of language! She writes sentences like:
Across the street vague things were falling off buildings, snow, dust, birds.
and fills her prose with wonderful imagery and poetry. I'm afraid the story I want to rec is flocked because its rating is higher than PG-13 and she flocks all of those. (Go ahead and friend her though. It's worth it.) I do realize that it's shitty to rec flocked entries and that's why there is a second rec which is open.
!LOCKED! (*cries a little*) all the lonely people [Bradley/Colin - R - 5.1k - warning: RPS, AU] This is actually a fairly recent fic but it struck me with it's frail beauty.
author's summery: wherein Colin has agoraphobia, meets people on the internet, and helps Bradley paint his living room.
excerpt: It was hard enough to put one foot in front of the other when the distance between each step was inconceivable, the weather too fierce. But he knew that this wasn't really the case, that it was only in the mind. In reality it was a short walk that could be covered within the span of three minutes. He was just unbelievably slow and kept stopping to breathe every five seconds. Five seconds was a long time when you had to be somewhere else half an hour ago. He stopped again and leaned against the wall, and breathed. And breathed. Five seconds.

author's summery: wherein there is lots of rain, and Bradley is bothered by the oatmeal caking the side of Colin's face.
excerpt: Colin says, "I used to think I could walk between the raindrops," and then smiles even though Bradley doesn't. "As a kid, you know. My brother and I would hold hands and go outside and look for them. Spaces. Between the rain. But there weren't any." His smile turns suddenly sad. "Of course there weren't."

excerpt: A shriek that could never be considered manly echoed throughout the castle, followed by stomping feet, slamming doors, and shouted hexes. Finally, the doors to the library blasted open and Malfoy stormed through. He zeroed in on Harry immediately and bellowed, "POTTER!!!"

Teasing A Dragon [Charlie/Draco - NC-17 - 2.7k - warning: spanking, rimming, dirty-talk, dungeon sex] Draco gets a rather steamy Christmas present from his Dragon taming lover.
author's summery: Charlie Weasley is rather enthusiastic at seeing his lover again. So enthusiastic that it’s a good thing the walls can’t speak otherwise the Slytherin common room would have an interesting tale to tell.
excerpt: Two hours later and Draco found himself lying on one of the thick, soft rugs that littered the flagged stone floor of the common room. They were currently lying replete as they recovered their stamina for round three. As he had promised, Charlie had taken the Slytherin Head of House over his own desk in one secluded corner of the common room.

Gifted [Arthur/Merlin - NC-17 - 4k] This was written as a Haiti-donation fic and built around a list of requested kinks. The result: delicious porn! :)
author's summery: Morgana gives Merlin a present he doesn't want to re-gift. (Warning for hot boy smut).
excerpt: As ridiculous as it might seem, in that moment, Merlin’s biggest worry wasn’t that he’d been unceremoniously kidnapped from his own bed, but that his morning erection was grinding into his captor’s shoulder. He hoped that the man didn’t notice, although judging by the way he was being strategically jostled so that he rutted against the man’s shoulder blades, he assumed that his kidnapper was either oblivious, or liked it. He couldn’t decide which was worse.

Some Decisions Are Just Easy [Teddy / Albus Severus - PG-13 - 4k - age difference: 27/18] This so incredibly adorable! The way the slight angst and UST are resolved at the end is heart warming in the best possible way.
author's summery: Teddy's always shied away from making decisions because he never makes them for the right reasons. Suppose then it's a good thing Al's never had the same problem.
excerpt: Teddy finds himself in what has got to be one of the most strange and unusual situations ever. He's going to a club - a gay club - with his ex-girlfriend. Somehow he thinks this is supposed to be something you figure out before the age of 27 and admits to himself he should have tried making a few extra decisions a bit earlier in life. Victoire, on the other hand, thinks it's grand fun and does nothing but tease him about how she broke his heart so badly he's having to resort to men, no other woman can possibly compare. Teddy's simply glad someone's enjoying themselves.

Rotten Wood [Draco/Pansy - R - 3k] Please don't get scared away by the pairing, there's only a very short, not really explicit sex scene! The rest is a brilliant meditation over 7th year Draco's situation.
author's summery: Draco is returning for his seventh year at Hogwarts. He boards the train knowing his status among his fellow Slytherins is in question.
excerpt: The small loo has a mirror, and I look at myself as I wash my hands after taking a piss. I look like shite. I am surprised even Pansy finds an interest at me at the moment. I’m not sure what to do about her. I do know I can’t be with her physically anymore, the thought turns my stomach. When did this happen? It happened when I saw the connection between my mother and father. They loved each other, and that love was carrying them through this time. Without saying a word, they knew what the other was thinking. Just a simple glance or slight touch was enough. No, Pansy is not bright enough or deep enough emotionally to fulfill that role.

Reindeer Games [Bradley/Colin - NC-17 - 1.8k - warnings: RPS, crack] Wanna "see" Colin inappropriately and quite unintentionally bound in Christmas decoration? If your answer is yes, then read this! :D (Also, cinnamon cameo!)
excerpt: In hindsight, and being fully aware of his own capacity for clumsiness, he really should have seen this coming. Should have realized that decorating his Christmas tree while mostly naked was not the brightest idea he’d ever had. But it had taken him forever to remove all the pine needles from his favourite hoodie last year - he’d still been finding them embedded in the material in April, for god’s sake.

“I’m hungry.” She sighed, found some bread and opened the refrigerator.
“I want the chicken sandwich spread.”
“We’re out, honey.”
“Why didn’t you buy some yesterday? And don’t call me that.”
“I had to stay home, darling.”
“Why? There’s nothing to do here.” She crouched down in front of him.
“Daddy is away right now, and I’m waiting for him to come home. I have to be here when he returns.”
“Where is he, mommy?” Her eyes blinked more than usual.
“I don’t know, darling.” She ruffled his blond hair as she stood and gave him a hug. His face got smothered by her stomach. He pushed her away.
